Dementia is a general decline in mental functioning followed by receding memory, thinking and judgment. As because he/she is suffering from memory loss or is not able to remember his/her near ones, does not mean that you should neglect him. You should give him the same kind of attention as you used to give earlier. The feeling of belongingness may help in the cure process of the patient. Remember you lose nothing if you give love.

Familiar Environment

Try to keep the patient in a familiar environment where a lot of change does not take place. Try not to relocate to new locations or go anywhere else.

Even do not shift furniture or other things where the patient is staying. He should not feel changes. It can be disruptive in the cure of his or her state.

The patient should be provided a proper and healthy diet that should include necessary vitamins and other nutrients. Try to give him food in regular intervals and do not ignore this.

Often dementia patients forget to take food. You should try to be patient in making him take his food. There are cases where it is seen that the patient always wants to eat and forgets when he has taken the food last.

This is another element that can help in the development of cognitive state of mind. Omega 3 Fatty Acid can be found in various fish and nuts. Therefore it is to be taken care that the patient’s diet is filled with this kind of foods. This can also help to maintain the patient’s heart conditions.

Ginkgo
