14 Practical Home Remedy for Mosquito Bite Relief

You don’t need to talk much about mosquito bites! They are utterly irritating and sometimes dangerous. Most of us resort to many methods for saving ourselves from the poisonous sting of mosquitoes. The fact that they can bite us at any time of the day and spread a host of diseases makes it very important to do something about them.

Most of the time we do not do anything about a mosquito bite and it almost always subsides without any assistance. But it could be when you are less immune that a mosquito bite could cause problems like infection as the bacteria can enter the body through the cuts caused when you scratch.

For treating a mosquito bite, you need not go anywhere else. The common things that you find in your house can offer great relief from itching, swelling and pain. It will also help prevent secondary infections that can be caused through bacteria entering the body.

Home Remedies for Mosquito Bite

1. Soapy Water- the Best First Aid

Mosquitoes can transfer all sorts of germs into your body. The best way to control any infection is to wash the area with soap and water. Of course this could not be a practical solution if the mosquitoes are always on a biting spree. But it does help a lot to wash as it can remove all the harmful bacteria that could have been deposited on your body. If there are too many mosquito bites, just take a fresh bath and ensure that you prevent further mosquito bites. Prevention is very important especially if you are staying in an area where mosquito borne illnesses are rampant.

2. Ice Compress for Preventing Allergies

A mosquito bite can trigger allergies due to the release of histamines. If you are susceptible to allergic reactions, it is a good idea to take preventive measures as soon as the mosquito bites you. Place an ice directly on the area of mosquito bite to prevent the action of histamines on your skin. It will also stop your itch by numbing the area.

3. Household Ammonia Can Come to Your Aid

Household ammonia is a good remedy for treating mosquito bites. As soon as you are bitten by a mosquito, put some household ammonia on the area. This will prevent swelling and allergy on the region.

4. Toothpaste Remedy for Mosquito Bite

Toothpaste can do wonders to relieve itchy skin due to a mosquito bite or any other insect bite. This is one of the best and fastest remedy available at home. Take a cotton swab and apply toothpaste on the affected area. Toothpaste, especially peppermint toothpaste helps in relieving the itch and swelling with the cooling effect of peppermint.

5. Calamine Lotion too Can Offer Great Relief

A mosquito bite can sometimes drive you crazy with its intense itch. This is especially true when you are in a deep sleep. Dab some calamine lotion on the area of mosquito bite and leave it to dry completely. You can now get back to a sound sleep, free from itch and swelling.

6. A Bar of Soap Can Do its Tiny Bit

One would wonder as to what a bar of soap can offer by way of relief. A dry bar of soap can remove all the germs from the surface and also mask the action of germs and histamine on the skin, thereby removing swelling and itching of the affected skin. Rub a bar soap on the area of itch and leave it on. You can wash it off later.

7. Use Deodorant for Instant Relief

For getting instant relief from itching caused by mosquito bite, spray some deodorant on the area. A roll on deodorant is a better option if you have one as roll on deodorants help in suppression of the itch more effectively through the pressure exerted.

8. Some Salt Treatment

Salt too can help in removing the itch and swelling caused due to a mosquito bite. Salt is also a disinfectant and helps in removing the germs that may be present on the skin surface. Mix salt with water and apply on the area. Leave it on for best results.

9. The Wonders of Apple Cider Vinegar

If the mosquito bite is causing too much itching and is causing your skin to peel, apply apple cider vinegar immediately in order to prevent infection and kill the germs. The acidic base of apple cider vinegar will prevent the germs from spreading and causing trouble.

10. Tea Tree Oil for Mosquito Bites

Topical application of tea tree oil can relieve intense itching and stinging sensation associated with insect bites in general. Tea tree oil can be got from grocery stores and is also good as an antiseptic oil to prevent infections. Apply tea tree oil as soon as the mosquito bites you.

11. Tea Bags for Mosquito Bites

The tannin present in tea is a good anti allergen which helps in counteracting the action of histamine on the affected area. Take a tea bag and moisten it with water. You can use a used tea bag as well for this purpose. Rub in the affected area before the histamine can be released from the body. This will prevent swelling and allergic reactions on the skin.

12. Baking Soda for Relieving mosquito Bites

Baking soda is a good remedy for all kinds of insect bites. For mosquito bites, apply a paste of baking soda on the affected skin. Baking soda will remove the toxin from the skin surface by neutralising the acidity and prevent allergic outbreaks and infections. Allow the paste to dry naturally.

13. Aloe Vera for Curing Mosquito Bites

Aloe vera is very popular for its healing and soothing qualities. It immediately exerts a cooling action on itching skin and helps in the healing process faster.  Apply aloe vera immediately after you are bitten by a mosquito.

14. White Vinegar for Mosquito Bites

Being a natural disinfectant, white vinegar helps in controlling the itch and cleanses the skin from germs and prevents infections. Using a cotton ball, dab white vinegar on the affected skin. For treating many bites, add 2 cups of white vinegar to a bucket of warm water and take bath in this water.
