15 Natural Cures For Indigestion

Indigestion is a state of the body when the consumed food does not get properly digested and therefore causes discomfort in the body. It can be traced through a heavy stomach, continuous burp, heartburn or increase in acidity. Indigestion may be the cause of unhealthy diet habits and too much stress.

The digestive glands in this stage give out some erratic juices that can create discomfort in the body.  However, this condition can be cured and immediate relief is possible with some natural cures.

Some Natural Remedies That Can Assure Healing From Indigestion

Ginger

Ginger is a known herbal remedy for general stomach related problems, including digestion.

Taking ½ teaspoon of ginger juliennes in the morning or adding them with your tea will help your digestive system to work properly.  You can also take supplements of ginger in the form of capsules.

Peppermint Oil

Peppermint is a popular home remedy for intestinal muscle spasms. You can take 1 teaspoon of peppermint oil thrice a day between your meals. You can prepare some green tea with ½ teaspoon of the oil.

Camomile

Camomile has been used for centuries for treating indigestion. The intestinal tracts are treated and calmed and the stomach is normalised. This is also something you can mix in your tea and have twice a day.

Lime & Ginger

Extract a teaspoon full of juice from a ginger. Take another teaspoon of lime juice and mix them in warm water. You can consume this after taking lunch or dinner. This can prove to be a very handy and useful remedy.

Fennel Seeds

Every Indian kitchen can find a jar full of fennel seeds, which is a popular chewing mouth freshener and is consumed after meals. This habit is good as it helps in improving the process of digestion. It can also relieve nausea.

Caraway Seeds

These seeds are very good for the digestive system as well. You can chew this directly. It contains oil that helps to relieve spasms in the gut. You will feel relieved and your discomfort will ease considerably.

Orange

Try to take an orange after your meal. According to experts, oranges are rich in nutrients and eating them will give rest to the digestive system. Thus the indigestion problems will be cured and you will get relief.

Vinegar

This is another healer for indigestion. However, you need to be careful about the dosage. Take 1 teaspoon of apple cedar vinegar and mix with a glass full of water and consume it. This method is particularly helpful if you had a heavy meal.

Grapes

Snack on a handful of juicy grapes instead of snacking on potato wafers and French fries. Munching on grapes will prove to be an excellent remedy for indigestion. You will get immediate relief from the discomfort and irritation in the stomach.

Baking Soda

Another good and easy cure is baking soda. Add a teaspoon of it to water and then stir it till it gets dissolved. Drinking this solution can be good for indigestion.

This can neutralize the acid level inside the stomach and can control the formation of gas and prevent bloating.

Lemon Water

Prepare a warm glass of lemon water and drink it whenever there is discomfort or irritation. You can consume it before your meals too. This will help to fight acid formation in the stomach and will relieve you from feeling heavy.

Garlic

This is another herb that can prove helpful during digestion problems. Mix equal amount of garlic and soya oil and massage on your stomach. Allow the oil to get absorbed into the skin. This can ease off the situation and you will feel better.

Cumin & Coriander

Take some juice of coriander leaves and mix some cumin seeds into that. Then add this into a glass of water with a pinch of salt. Consume this after a heavy meal and you will feel much better.

Eat slowly

Try to eat slowly, munching and chewing on your food properly. People who gulp their food often end up eating more than usual and suffer from indigestion.  This may cause bloating and formation of gas as well. Take your time on the dining table and do not hurry.

Be disciplined

Do not indulge in food at any time of the day. Form a routine for taking food. There should be at least 4 meals in a day and it should be distributed properly. Try to take the last heavy meal at least before 3 hours of going to bed. As the digestive system also takes rest while you sleep.
