But it is not just useful for its culinary benefits, it has several health benefits as well which makes it a very useful spice.
Iron is important for the formation hemoglobin which is essential for preventing anemia. Saffron has large amount of iron and hence is useful against anemia.
Saffron has several antioxidants which keep the cholesterol levels under control and prevent the formation of plaque on the inner lining of the blood vessels thereby preventing the occurrence of stroke and keeps the heart healthy.
Saffron has potassium which maintains the electrolyte balance thereby keeping the blood pressure under control.
Saffron is aphrodisiac in nature and is known to improve potency in men and is also found to be useful in overcoming erectile dysfunction thereby improving the sexual life. Saffron mixed with a warm glass of milk is found to be beneficial.

Saffron helps to overcome morning sickness and nausea which are of common occurrence in pregnancy. It also keeps would be mother in a happy and relaxed mood and prevents acidity and bloating associated with pregnancy.
Saffron has anti microbial properties and hence can be used effectively against skin problems like acne, blemishes and dark circles. It is also known to give fair and glowing skin. Simply mix saffron with malai or fresh cream. Apply it to the face. Wash face with lukewarm water after 15 minutes to get naturally beautiful glowing fair skin.
Saffron is considered to be very good for hair. It is known to promote hair growth. In case a person is suffering from hair loss then saffron can be used effectively to overcome the problem. Take a mixture of licorice and milk. To this add saffron. Mix well and apply the mixture to the scalp to overcome hair loss.
Gums become stronger by massaging with saffron regularly. Saffron is also useful in reducing inflammation of gums, tongue and mouth.
Mixture of warm milk and saffron is known to induce sleep and hence can be used if one is suffering from insomnia.
Saffron has crocin, safranal and carotenoids which have anti carcinogenic properties and help reduce the risk of cancer.
The carotenoids in saffron are found to be very useful for healthy eyes. They prevent the degeneration of the tissues of the eyes and prevent cataract and improve vision.
Saffron is good for the bones and the joints. It acts as an anti inflammatory agent and protects the bones and tissues and is therefore useful against arthritis and lower back pain.
