Air borne infections, allergens and cold affect most of us. Even if you can avert catching a cold, averting an infection is nearly impossible. Infections enter through the nasal passage way and affect your sinus cavities and also the lungs. The respiratory system fights back by producing excess of mucus so as to trap the foreign bodies.
There is a whole lot of mucus secretion throughout the system including the nasal passageway, the trachea, bronchioles and others. Though this may help the body to avert a more serious infection, it results in blocking the whole respiratory system. The result is congestion. You feel that the entire respiratory system is blocked. The nose is congested and so is the chest. This results in breathing discomfort, sore throat, pain, itching etc.
You can get antibiotics and over the counter pain medications to fight the symptoms. However, it may result in dehydrating the mucus even more and that can result in a long term problem. You can take the help of herbs to get respite from congestion. Let us look at some of the herbal remedies for congestion.
Garlic has antibiotic properties. This can kill or deactivate some of the bacteria or fungus. This is likely to reduce the intensity of congestion..
The inflammatory nature of garlic will also reduce soreness of the throat. To use it chew two cloves of garlic every day. This will give you quite a relief from the congestion.
