5 Home Remedies For Sports Injuries

Ice

Ice is one of the most important emergency medicines for sports persons. Whether you have a pulled muscle, a rotator cuff injury, a torn hamstring, or an injury resulting in a swelling ice can be comforting for you.

Ice has the capacity to constrict the blood vessels. This reduces the flow of blood and along with it the flow of pain sensation. However, you can ice the area for a maximum one hour. More than that is not recommended because that can numb the area and prolong the healing time.

Heat

After applying ice for some time the muscles become tensed and sore though the inflammation has died down. Now you should apply heat over the area so that the muscles cam become relaxed. This will help in speeding up the recovery. So use a heating pad repeatedly on the affected muscle. This will help the muscle to relax.

Turmeric And Slaked Lime

Turmeric has many medicinal qualities. It is anti-inflammatory and antibiotic in nature. On the other hand slaked lime is antiseptic and is able to draw out water from inflammations.

So a combination of turmeric and slaked lime can be very good for strains and even fractures. Use a paste of slaked lime and turmeric to smear on and around the swelling. Do this liberally and regularly. The swelling and pain will come down normally.

Elevation

Elevating the affected organ above the level of the heart can reduce swelling. It has been seen that elevating the affected leg or hand helps in increasing venous return of blood to the circulation in the body. This helps to bring down the swelling. So Elevate the hand or leg for some time to reduce swelling.

Compress

Compress the swelling with some elastic band. This will reduce the swelling to some extent. Just keep it so tight as to let the blood circulate. If you find that the area is becoming numb loosen the band.
