Your hair becomes dry when the sebum producing glands in your scalp cannot produce sufficient oil to keep your hair hydrated. As you age, your hair tends to become dry. Hair damage following sun exposure or application of heat or hair styling products containing harsh chemicals strips your hair of its natural oil. Deep conditioning with olive oil is known to reduce the dryness of the hair. Rich in fatty acids, olive oil can easily penetrate the hair cuticle and leaves the hair smooth and soft. This inexpensive home remedy nourishes the hair and strengthens it. If you are struggling with dry hair, use olive oil in the following ways.
This is the simplest way to reduce hair dryness with olive oil. This weekly application of olive oil keeps the hair soft and adds sheen to it.
One tablespoon olive oil
Put the olive oil in a small bowl and place it on a pan containing boiling water. Warm the oil. The oil should be comfortably warm so that you can dip your finger in the oil without scalding it. Gently rub the warm olive oil on your scalp and hair. With a soft towel wrap your head. Leave it on for at least 20 minutes. Rinse and wash your hair with gentle shampoo.
Olive oil is combined with honey to help soften the dry and damaged hair. Honey absorbs moisture from the air and traps it in the hair cuticle.
Three tablespoons olive oil
One tablespoon honey
Mix olive oil and honey in a bowl and leave the mixture aside for 24 hours. Stir the mixture well before using it. Apply the mixture to the hair and scalp. Gently massage the scalp to stimulate circulation. Cover your hair with a shower cap and leave the olive oil and honey mixture on the hair for 30 minutes. Wash off with lukewarm water.
Coconut milk is an excellent moisturizer for the dry hair. It conditions and de-freezes the hair. Avocado is rich in fatty acids and protein that nourish and strengthen the hair and make it less dry. A hair mask that combines olive oil with coconut milk and avocado works wonders for the dry hair.
2 to 3 tablespoons of olive oil
One cup of coconut milk
One ripe avocado
2 tablespoons honey
Put all the ingredients in a blender and blend until the mixture attains a smooth consistency. Gently warm the mixture before use. Saturate your hair, from the root to the end, with a generous amount of the mixture. Leave it on for 20 to 30 minutes and then rinse off with lukewarm water.
The cholesterol rich egg yolk nourishes the dry and dull hair and helps soften the tresses. To get rid of hair dryness, apply this olive oil and egg yolk hair mask.
One tablespoon olive oil
One egg yolk
Whisk the egg yolk with the olive oil. Apply the mixture to your hair. Wait for 15 minutes and then rinse off the mixture with cool water and shampoo your hair.
