Lack of sleep is called insomnia and women are more prone to insomnia than men. Insomniac people have difficulty in falling asleep or may wake up in the middle of night and may not be able to sleep again. When this situation persists for weeks, it’s a matter of concern and this chronic insomnia could be a warning sign of some medical disorder.
Most of the insomnias are caused by stress, depression, anxiety, grief etc. There are sleeping pills to aid the situation but the adverse side effects associated with most of these pills outweigh their benefits. Hence, herbal remedies for insomnia are considered to be the safest treatment.
Chamomile is considered to be one of best herbal remedy for insomnia. It is highly beneficial for those having insomnia along with irritability and restlessness and can be used by people of any age. The dried leaves and flowers can be used for making tea and can be consumed two to three times a day.
If you are using the tincture, then take thirty drops at a time three times a day.
You can also use five to six drops of chamomile oil in bathing water and this helps to soothe the distraught nerves. A diluted form of chamomile oil can also be used for massaging the body.
Valerian roots are found to have excellent sedative property and are highly beneficial to cure insomnia, restlessness and nervousness. It reduces the time to fall into sleep and also help to maintain deep sleep throughout the night.

The tea made from Valerian roots are as effective as the synthetic sedatives and medications and does not produce any side effects. Take one cup of tea daily and two to five drops of valerian tincture daily for two to three times.
Hops is another herbal remedy for insomnia, weakness of nerves, anxiety and restlessness.

It is a major component in beers and it can be used in different forms such as poultice, tea, tincture, essential oil etc. Drink one cup of tea made out of hops two to three times a day to promote sleep.
The roots of this plant are used for making tea and are available in tincture, capsule and tablet form.

The mild sedative nature of kava helps to relax the body and imparts a calm feeling; hence kava kava is widely used for treating fatigue and sleeplessness.

Passion flower is a wonderful herb used for curing insomnia without any side effects. It helps to relieve the muscular tension and calms anxiety and distraught nerves.

Hence passion flower is an ideal remedy for sleeplessness due to stress, mental tension and nervous exhaustion. Passion flower does not produce any side effect even if taken in large doses; hence it can be used by both kids and adults. Consume a cup of tea made out of passion flower daily three times.
Similarly St. John’s wart, skullcap, California poppy, lavender etc. can also be used for treating insomnia. Along with herbal remedies practice meditation and exercises daily to facilitate good sleep.
