5 Effective Herbal Remedies For Lice

Being infested with lice is not only an irritation, it is embarrassing as well. Having to scratch the hair at odd times and within a medley of people may be quite embarrassing. But you cannot refrain from scratching because you are feeling like something is moving within your thick hair. Actually, the lice has made your hair a cozy habitat and it is growing there.

If not prevented it will rapidly rise in number, and you will have to scratch your head all the time. Lice is a wingless creature that rests on your scalp and sucks blood from it. It spreads from others through combs, hair brushes, clothing or even bedding. The eggs are hatched in a way that they reside on the hair shafts close to the scalp.

There are medicated shampoos and disinfectants that can kill lice, but you can take the help of herbs. There are herbs that can help kill and control lice. Let us explore some herbal remedies for lice.

Herbal Remedies For Lice

Lavender Oil

You may have lavender plant at home. It has been seen that the essential oils present in lavender have the capacity to kill lice. Lavender oil is insecticidal in nature.

It has a pleasant aroma. So take some lavender oil and apply on your hair thoroughly. If you do this regularly you will get relief from the problem of lice.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is a good insecticide. It has been used traditionally to kill germs, fungi and bacteria. It has been seen that lice can not tolerate the smell of tea tree oil. So you can use it to kill the lice in your hair.

You will get it in the local pharmacy. So buy one bottle and sprinkle some of it on your hair and scalp. Now leave it there overnight. The slow, but prolonged action of the oil will drive out or kill the lice. In the morning wash out with a shampoo.

Rosemary

The herb rosemary contains natural insecticidal elements that have proved to be very helpful in combating the menace of lice. In fact rosemary is used in many commercial lice repellant products. It has the ability to kill adult lice.

You can get rosemary oil in pharmacy stores. Apply some rosemary on your hair and let it sit on your hair overnight. This will kill the lice, but the eggs will be there. In the morning do comb out the dead lice and the egg. Rinse with a shampoo.

Thyme

Thyme oil is a very strong insecticide and it can kill lice in less time, but it should be diluted with water before applying on your hair. So get some thyme oil and apply on the hair. This will kill the lice. Comb out the eggs to get lice free hair.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is a acidic solution. It is antimicrobial as well as insecticidal in nature. You can use apple cider vinegar to kill lice.

For killing lice mix half amount of apple cider vinegar with equal amount of water and apply the solution on your hair. Just let it sit on the scalp and hair for 15 to 20 minutes and rinse with a shampoo and then water.
