Depression is very common these days and a wider range of people all over the world are affected by it. Issues relating to studies, career, job, business, love, family, social responsibilities, etc. are taking a toll on many lives.

Anti depressant pills are available in the market and people do opt for them but many a times it is seen that they end up giving side effects. If you are looking forward to an effective way to kill depression, then you can try out these exercises.

Exercises For Depression

Walking

Go for walks every morning and evening in case you are having a tough time fighting with depression. Not only will it keep you distracted but it also increases the metabolic rate and brings down tension levels. It is advisable to go for early morning strolls or evening walks as walking in the sun is never a good option.

Cycling

Very effective in building leg muscles, you probably never knew that cycling can be beneficial in fighting depression as well. It strengthens the body, increases your stamina, makes you physically fit and also turns out to be very effectual in fighting depression.

Swimming

Swimming is the best form of exercise for the body not only physically but mentally as well. The front and back strokes work wonders for the body and the mind. Swimming helps in relaxing the mind and decreases any kind of depression instantly.

It is advisable that you should go for swimming regularly in order to live a physically active and a mentally stable life. Moreover, it helps in getting rid of health issues that come along with depression such as high cholesterol level, obesity, high blood pressure and so on.

Deep Breathing

Practice deep breathing anywhere and anytime in case you are hit by a depression attack. Just sit with your legs folded and place your palms on your knees. This posture should remind you of the traditional posture of yoga. Now inhale deeply. Let your stomach push inwards while you inhale.

Hold your breath for about two to three seconds and exhale gradually. Repeat it several times. It is suggested perform deep breathing religiously everyday and you will be relieved from all kinds of depression and depression related health disorders. Performing the exercise in an open environment yields the best results instantly. This is a form of meditation that aids in relaxing the mind and releasing all kinds of tensions and mental troubles.

You can perform a wide range of stretching exercises in case you want to fight depression and the health disorders that accompany it. Stand straight with hands by your side.

Then raise your hands up in the air and without bending your knees, try touching your toes with your fingers. If you are not able to do so then go as far as you can. This is just an example; you can try other stretching exercises too. Killing depression is not a big thing. It is all in the mind after all. With the ever increasing responsibility of the common man, depression is but a common phenomenon. So, act wise and stay healthy!
