Wet cough is mostly innocuous in nature, but there can be some underlying disease too. If you are suffering from productive or wet cough for a long time then you should visit a doctor. This is because you may be suffering from bronchitis or some other disease. However, most often it signals catching a cold and infection. When infectious agents or allergens attack your respiratory system your immune system tries to defend the body.

This leads to production of mucus. Mucus tries to trap the allergens or infection causing agents and do not let them advance into the system. This may be good for your health, but it leaves you coughing and short of breath. Every time you are coughing yellow or white sputum comes out with cough. It disturbs you in sleep too. However, there are herbs for treating wet cough. Let us explore some herbal remedies for wet cough.

Herbal Remedies For Wet Cough

Eucalyptus

This is a great decongestant herb. The volatile essential oils in eucalyptus leaves are good antibiotics as well as decongestants. It has been used since a long time to treat cough and congestion.

So when you are suffering from congestion and consequent cough use eucalyptus oil. Inhale some eucalyptus oil at least twice a day. You will get considerable relief.

Black Cohosh

The root of black cohosh herb is expectorant in nature. It helps in loosening of phlegm so that more and more cough can be thrown out with each cough. This way you can throw out all cough within a few days. This will give you relief from the problem of chronic cough.

It also has anti-inflammatory nature. Due to this it can even fight the infection that is causing the problem. Get some black cohosh powder from the market, make tea with it and drink that sip by sip. You will be relieved of the wet cough.

Comfrey Root

Root of comfrey herb has been used since ancient times to loosen cough and ease coughing. It is also known as a healing herb, meaning that it has a healing nature.

It is anti-inflammatory in nature. You can also use this herb for treating inflammation of the throat that may be resulting in sore throat. Tea made from comfrey root can cure wet cough with regular consumption.

Slippery Elm

It is considered to be one of the best remedies for treating inflammations. The inner bark of this tree contains a mucilaginous fiber that has a number of medicinal values. It sooths the mucus membrane and loosens it. This heals the constant irritation in throat and helps you to throw out the cough.

For cough it is best to take this herb as tea. Powdered inner bark of slipper elm is available in drugstores. Get some of it and make tea with it. Take at least two cups daily. You will get a lot of relief from the hacking cough.

Horehound

This herb is mostly used as a cough and cold remedy. It is available in the drugstore in the form of tonic. It tastes bitter, but it is a very good expectorant. It may be your best friend when you are suffering from wet cough.
