The first signs of aging begins to appear around eyes in form of puffiness, crow’s feet and more. This is because the skin around eyes is more sensitive and fragile than rest of the facial skin. In fact, skin on our eyelids is thinner than skin on any other body part and is constantly moving unless we are asleep. Skin around eyes need special treatment and it cannot withstand heavy creams that we use otherwise on the face. Rather use of heavy creams around eyes increases puffiness and dark circles. It is therefore recommended to use specially formulated creams for eyes with specific ingredients. Here are some DIY eye creams that would further keep you away from chemicals and other dangers that commercially formulated products often lead to.
Full with goodness of antioxidants and nourishing oils, this DIY firming eye cream is light enough to be used in day as well as night. It contains Green tea which is known for its anti-inflammatory properties. Caffeine in green tea dehydrate fatty cells to remove bagginess and it also tightens skin. The cream also contains a number of oils which are light but can hydrate skin sufficiently.
Green Tea: 2 tsp
Rosehip seed oil: 1 tbsp
Sweet almond oil: 1 tbsp
Vitamin E: ¼ tsp
Emulsifying wax: 1 tbsp
Carrot Seed essential oil: 1 drop
Lavender Essential Oil: 3 drops
Brew green tea in 1/4th cup water. Heat wax, Vitamin E oil, sweet almond oil and rosehip oil in a double boiler. Keep stirring until a smooth liquid is formed and all the wax has melted. Add brewed tea and mix again. You may use a blender to mix them uniformly. Remove from heat and add essential oils. Pour in a container and allow it to cool. Once it has cooled a cream like consistency will be formed.
If you are busy person and do not have much time to spare, but still you are looking for a respite from those baggy, tired looking eyes, here is what you can do to quickly prepare a soothing eye cream.
Petroleum jelly: 1 tbsp
Cocoa butter: 1 tbsp
Coconut oil: 1 tbsp
Put all the ingredients in a microwave safe bowl and gently heat at 15 second interval, such that you keep stirring between each. One all ingredients have melted and mixed well, pour in a small glass container that has lid. Allow it to cool completely. Use around eyes, whenever desired.
A superb combination of shea butter, geranium essential oil and coconut oil, this eye cream stimulates collagen production, clear up dark circles, combats puffiness, lessens wrinkles and fine lines.
Shea butter: 2 tbsp
Coconut Oil: 1 tbsp
Beeswax: 1 tsp
Rosehip oil: 1.5 tsp
Geranium essential oil: 5 drops
Melt Shea butter, beeswax and coconut oil in a double boiler. Once beeswax has completely melted, stir with a spoon. Remove from heat and add rest of the ingredients. Stir again with a spoon. Transfer to a container and cool completely.
This repairing eye cream contains caffeine which can enhances skin’s natural ability to heal, repair and tighten.
Coffee: 1 tbsp
Argan Oil: 2 tsp
vitamin E oil: 5 drops
Cocoa butter: 2 tsp
Make infused coffee oil by using ground coffee and coconut oil. Using a double boiler, melt the carrier oil and butter. Add infused coffee oil once the carrier oils have melted. Add vitamin oil and mix. Allow it to sit and harden in a container.
Although this eye cream has serum like consistency but it is extremely effective and can be use both at night and day. Moreover it uses only two ingredients and is extremely easy to make.
Aloe vera gel: 1 tbsp
Almond oil: 1 tbsp
Just put pure aloe vera gel and almond oil in glass bottle. Shake the bottle to mix both. Your eye cream is ready for use.
