One of the most common causes of congestion is common cold or influenza. Head congestion is basically a symptom of common cold and flu. This problem gets aggravated due to allergy to chemicals, pollutants or may be by consuming some type of food. The common symptoms of head congestion are mucus filled cough accompanied with heavy chest and when this mucus moves via throat, it causes sore throat.
Due to heavy congestion breathing becomes tough. In chronic conditions it leads to ear ache as well, and also affects head and temples resulting in severe headache. Here are some natural remedies which will help in curing head congestion:
Drinking plenty of liquids when suffering from head congestion gives lot of relief. Regular intake of juices or water moistens the throat and also prevents dehydration. In congestion, drinking herbal teas and ginger ale are few methods of getting immediate relief from sore throat.
Even hot soups of mixed vegetables and chicken soup give relief and thus reduces the inflammation of the membrane of nose. This helps in reducing the headache associated with head congestion.
Inhaling steam gives a lot of relief in congestion and also stops the dripping nose. The method to take steam is to hold the head over the pot containing hot water and breathe slowly through nose.
Other ways are to humidify the entire room by using humidifier or by taking a shower with hot water in a closed bathroom. The saline sprays are also very effective and helpful in getting relief from congestion.
Saline nasal sprays or home-made saline water when used for rinsing the nose helps in breaking congestion and also eradicates the bacteria and virus particles from the nose. Mix one-fourth spoons of table salt and baking soda in 7-8 ounces of water.
Then spray this mixture gently on the nose, one nostril should be held by applying a slight pressure while squirting the mixture on the other nostril. Repeat this process twice or thrice for one nostril.
A particular exercise can help in giving relief during times of head congestion. Place two fingers below the cheek bones on both sides and push it in an upward direction.
You weight should be on your thumb and your head should feel relaxed when you do this. You should do this for a minute and repeat the entire process after an interval of 15-20 minutes. Head congestion can also be cured by sleeping straight with your head resting on 2 pillows.
Ginger provides great relief in head congestion, as it reduces the inflammation of membranes. Using ginger in tea and drinking this tea twice a day helps a lot. Ginger can also be boiled in water and inhaling the vapor gives relief from congestion.
Drink a mixture of ginger juice and lemon juice or eat lozenges of ginger or ginger candy twice or thrice day. Also, a paste of ginger with water can be applied on forehead for immediate relief.
