5 Quick Home Remedies For Botulism

Botulism is a type of food poisoning. This condition is rather serious than other forms of food poisoning and is fatal in some cases. Hence it must be treated carefully. This is caused by bacteria called clostridium botulinum which is commonly found in canned food products and recklessly preserved foods.

However, it can also be wound borne as the bacteria can make its way into your body through a wound. The substances released by the bacteria are toxic and can therefore cause serious illness. Fortunately, cures are available. Here are some home remedies for botulism:

Yogurt & Fenugreek Seeds

Yogurt is anti-bacterial in nature and helps in combating bacteria associated with digestive system. It thus helps in curing botulism and any kind of food poisoning.

You can mix the fenugreek seeds in the yogurt and have one tablespoon. You need not chew the seeds, you can swallow them. This gives an instant relief from stomach ache and frequent vomiting.

Honey

Honey is known for curing a wide range of diseases and botulism is one of them. Due to the antibacterial nature of honey, it restricts the clostridium botulinum up to an extent and cures problems like indigestion which surface as a result of food poisoning. It can either be consumed in natural form or in the tea. You must take at least three tablespoons of honey each day to see fast results. It also restricts the excessive formation of acid in the stomach.

Apple Cider Vinegar

It is a long known home remedy for botulism as it disinfects the complete digestive system. Its alkaline nature alleviates various symptoms of food poisoning. Apple cider vinegar gives instant relief by reaching the gastro intestinal tract and soothing it by killing bacteria.

Before having any solid meals, mix two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a cup full of hot water and drink it. It also averts acid indigestion. You may otherwise have 2 tablespoons of it directly in one day.

Garlic

It is a natural antibiotic with highly effective antibacterial and antifungal properties which make it a herb good enough to fight any kind of food poisoning. It kills bacteria in the harmful digestive tract and fights stomach ache and symptoms of diarrhea.

You should take garlic juice twice a day but if you can’t take its smell try swallowing a garlic clove with water at least twice a day. You can also make a mixture of soyabean oil and garlic oil and massage your stomach with it after night’s meal.

Ginger

It cures almost every type of digestive tract problem including botulism and all other forms of food poisoning. Symptoms such as heart burn and nausea which are associated with botulism can be relieved instantly by having a cup of ginger tea after lunch and dinner.

Chop ginger into tiny pieces and boil a teaspoon of it in water for some time. Add sugar or honey to it and rest is like making normal tea. If not tea, you may take a few drops of ginger juice in a tablespoon of honey and have it twice or thrice a day. Consuming raw ginger also help in fast digestion.

  • Umeboshi plum and Miso, Japanese condiments work for these problems also really well, If I do not have them, I use Apple cider vinegar and yougurt, of course separately
