Aggressive PMS symptoms need proper care. There is, as such, no cure for PMS, but it can be managed. Instead of going for treatment with costly medicines and hormone replacement therapy you can opt for herbal remedies. Let us look at some herbal remedies for PMS.

Herbal Remedies For PMS

Chasteberry

This herb is generally found in the central asian and mediterranean regions, and it has been found to be quite effective in suppressing the symptoms of PMS.

It is believed that chasteberry can suppress the production of a hormone known as prolactin in the pituitary gland. An increased production of prolactin has been blamed for excessive PMS. For benefit you need to take 20 mg of chasteberry extract twice daily. This will reduce much of the symptoms associated with those days of the month.

Evening Primrose

This oil of evening primrose plant contains unsaturated fatty acids. It has been seen that women having high level of PMS suffer from an imbalance in quantum of essential unsaturated fatty acids. Restoring the balance of these fatty acids can manage the symptoms of PMS. This can be done very well by evening primrose oil.

For this reason it has been used traditionally to cure problems associated with PMS. It is recommended by herbalists that 1000 mg of evening primrose oil should be taken per day in equally divided dosages approximately two weeks prior to start of menstrual flow.

St. Johns Wort


This herb has been used since long for treatment of mood swings. As moods swing is one of the significant manifestations of PMS you can use this herb for managing PMS. It has been seen in scientific studies that a daily dose of St. Johns wort can manage mood swings quite effectively.

Flaxseed Oil

Hormonal imbalance is mostly to be blamed for premenstrual syndrome. To treat this you can use flaxseed oil. It contains natural hormone balancing substance known as lignans.

It is as effective as a hormone replacement therapy. It can lessen episodes of hot flashes and sweating. It is also good for your depression and fatigue.

Black Cohosh

This herb contains phytoestrogens which can balance the level of estrogen in your body. This prevents hormonal imbalance and therefore reduces the effects of PMS. It is available in tincture form.
