Peeing is one of the basic activities of survival, but a problem with the same can be devastating. Pain or burning sensation in your urinary organs while relieving yourself, urge to frequently visit the washroom, inability to control urine flow before being fully ready to urinate, and blood in the urine, are some of the major problems that both men and women face some time or the other in their lives.
You tend to ignore the problems associated with urination till they affect your daily life, as this problem, that is associated with your private parts, can be quite embarrassing for you to communicate with anyone about. However, urine problems can tend to become quite serious and affect the other functionalities of the human body, if not medically attended in a timely manner. Yoga exercises help in improving the general health of the different parts of your urinary system. Generally, one of the most fundamental therapies for any kind of urine problem would be to drink adequate quantities of water to flush out pathogenic organisms from the body.
Burning sensation while urinating implicates a urinary tract infection. Yoga exercises that boost the immunity of the body and, particularly the urinary tract, should be performed. Specific yoga exercises for dysurea are Surya Namaskara (Sun Salutation), Ardhamatsyendrasana (Half Queen of the Fish Pose), Ushtrasana (Camel Pose) and Pranayama (Yogic Breathing). They strengthen the urinary system against infections. Pranayama detoxifies and oxygenates the entire body, including the urinary system, to prevent and overcome infection.
Leaking urine is a condition in which one has a weak control over the muscles and sphincter that restrict the flow of urine from the bladder. Consequently, you may wet your under garments even before you reach the washroom, or when you laugh, cough or sneeze. The urine will flow out of the bladder as soon as there is a necessity to void the bladder.
Normally, people can voluntarily control this voiding by preventing the flow of the fluid out of the urinary bladder. Yoga asanas that improve voluntary control of the urinary sphincter such as Utkatasana (Chair Pose) help in toning, stretching and strengthening the muscles of the urinary sphincter. Moola Bandha (perineal contraction) is another exercise that tones up the muscles of the region between the anus and the genitals by repeated contraction, resulting in their improved functionality in stopping the involuntary flow of urine from the urinary bladder.
Urinary frequency is the urge to urinate frequently. The quantity of urine that is excreted is often found to be less but the sensation to urinate remains even immediately after voiding, causing much discomfiture. Frequent urination is a symptom of some internal disorder.
Exercises that strengthen the urinary sphincter that voluntarily controls voiding the urinary bladder will provide relief. Exercises such as Mula Bandha (perineal contraction), and yoga seated stretching poses help in strengthening the pelvic floor, thereby, increasing the efficiency of the urinary sphincter.
Hematuria can be caused by various kidney infections, kidney stones or tumor, or urinary tract or urinary bladder infections. For urinary system disorders, exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor, in order to boost their disease-resisting capabilities can be done.
These include Mula Bandha (perineal contraction), Pranayama ( yoga breathing), Ardhamatsyendrasana( Half Queen of the Fish Pose) and Ushtrasana( Camel Pose). For kidney disorders, exercises that stimulate the kidneys to function efficiently such as Dhanurasana ( Bow Pose), Uttanpadasna ( Raised Leg Pose) and Pawanmuktasana ( Wind Releasing Pose) are found to be beneficial.
Injury to your genital region due to accidents or during childbirth can lead to urinary problems. Exercises that increase the blood flow to the region can be performed. Viparita Karani (Legs Up the Wall Pose) is a wonderful yoga exercise to improve blood flow to your genitals. This exercise can be easily performed by lying on the bed and raising your legs up against the wall and allowing the blood to flow into your genitals.
