Turmeric

This is a amazing herb that is most commonly found in every kitchen. It is an excellent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant herb. Anti-inflammatory herbs like turmeric can be a practical alternative to non steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines. If the pain is superficial then make a poultice with some turmeric and a few drops of honey, which itself is anti-inflammatory in nature.

Apply this poultice on the painful area. With regular application you will feel quite relieved from the pain. If the pain seems to be emanating from deep inside then ingest some turmeric to defeat the inflammation and pain.

Boswellia

Clinical trials have been carried out on this herb to ascertain whether this herb is effective for treating chronic pain or not. It has been seen that it can treat chronic pain much like the pain killers.

It contains boswelic acid which attacks the molecules responsible for inflammatory response of the body. Moreover, the herb is less toxic than most of the drugs available in the market. It is available as supplement as well as cream.

Devils Claw

This herb is native to south American countries. They have been using this herb for centuries to alleviate pain, both chronic and acute. It contains certain glycosides that fight the inflammatory compounds produced in the body. This will bring down both inflammation and pain.

It is specifically useful for back pain. In clinical trials the efficacy of this herb has been exhibited. Along with its efficacy the lack of side effects adds to its desirability as a potent medicine for chronic pain. You can get its extracts in the drugstores.
