6 Effective Home Remedies For Laryngitis

To put it simply, laryngitis is inflammation of the larynx. The larynx is situated in the front portion of your neck and can be felt from outside. It is also known as the voice box because it contains the vocal cord. When you are suffering from laryngitis your voice is most likely to suffer. You may sound like a croaking frog.

In severe cases you may not be able to speak at all or speak with maximum effort. You may also have sore throat, dry cough, swollen lymph glands, fever, runny nose, pain with swallowing etc. However, it must be said that laryngitis is not at all severe, and usually does not need any medication either. It generally goes away within two weeks.

But if the symptoms are severe, and you need early resolution you can take over the counter medicines. Here are some home remedies for laryngitis which are as beneficial as medicines. Let us discuss some of them.

Home Remedies For Laryngitis

Honey

This is one of nature’s greatest gift to mankind. Honey is anti-inflammatory, antibiotic and smooth on the mucosal layer. Taking a tablespoon of honey on a regular basis will fight the pathogen responsible for the infection as well as suppress the inflammation caused by the pathogen.

It also moistens the throat to some extent. So start taking one tablespoon of honey every day and laryngitis will be cured within a few days.

Gargle

Salt water gargle is the most frequently used remedy for laryngitis. Salt is anti-inflammatory and analgesic in nature. Mixing some salt in a glass of warm water and gargling with it can provide quite a relief from the soreness and pain. It will heal the inflammation of the vocal cord and let you speak normally.

Garlic

This is a very good antimicrobial natural element. It has been used traditionally to kill and deactivate germs, bacteria and viruses. It is also anti-inflammatory in nature. Moreover, it is easy to ingest to beneficial values of garlic.

Just take two cloves of garlic in the mouth, just pierce them with the teeth and continue to suck with occasional chewing. You will be able to speak and the soreness will come down.

Humidify

The throat has become dry and that has increased the irritation and in turn the dry cough. You can moisten the throat by humidifying the environment of your home. You can also make it a practice to bathe in a bathroom filled with water vapor. Either way you will benefit from humidification.

Lemon

Lemon is highly acidic in nature. This can kill the microorganisms responsible for laryngitis. Thus, you can cure laryngitis just by sucking a piece of lemon.

Cut a lemon into two, take one half and sprinkle some salt on it. Now suck on it. Salt will increase the acidity even more and help in faster alleviation of the symptoms.

Vinegar

Vinegar is a good acid, and most of the virus and bacteria do not sustain in a highly acidic environment. So make a solution of equal parts of water and vinegar and gargle with it. You will get a lot of relief.
