6 Wonderful Home Remedies For Conjunctivitis

It is an inflammation of the conjunctiva of the eyes. The membrane that covers the eye is known as the conjunctiva. It is an infection that generally affects children, though adults are not immune to it. The eye will become red or pink. Accompanied with that there may be pain with burning and blurry vision.

There may also be some fluid discharge. It is a very contagious disease of the eyes and you should refrain from touching the eye lest you should infect the other eye as well. If you are wearing contact lens then you should remove these and replace these once the infection has cleared up.

However, it is not harmful and generally clears up within 10 days. Yet, the discomfort and pain needs to be addressed early. Treatment for conjunctivitis does not warrant a visit to the doctor. You can heal your eyes with items available commonly at home. Let us look at some home remedies for conjunctivitis.

6 Home Remedies For Conjunctivitis

Ice Pack

Ice can constrict blood vessels. This can reduce the flow of blood. Reduced blood flow also reduces the flow of pain sensation. This reduces the pain and itching.

For this take a ice cube in a clean cloth and compress your eyes with it. You will get some relief from the pain and itching.

Honey

Honey is anti-inflammatory in nature. It also has antiseptic properties. Applying some honey on the eyes can help you to reduce the inflammation.

This will reduce the itching and pain. The moisturizing quality of honey will remove the dryness too. For this just put a few drops of honey on the eyes.

Lemon Juice

Lemon juice has antibiotic and anti-inflammatory properties. It is rich in vitamin C and can help your immune system to fight infection.

However, you should dilute it with water so that it does not add to the irritation. Putting some diluted lemon juice on the eyelid can be effective in conjunctivitis.

Warm Compress

A warm compress on the eyelid can go a long way in reducing the inflammation. For this soak a clean piece of cloth in warm water, rinse the water and apply the cloth on the closed eye. Keep it there for some time. Repeat the process three to four times. You will get relief from the itch and pain.

Fennel Seeds

It has been seen that fennel seeds have the capacity to reduce symptoms of conjunctivitis. For this boil some fennel seeds in water and let the solution cool.

Now strain the solution and take the clear liquid. Wash your affected eyes with this clear liquid. Doing this three to four times a day will alleviate the symptoms of conjunctivitis.

Aloe Vera

This is a wonder herb commonly available at almost every home. It has a soothing effect, it is anti-inflammatory and is a good moisturizer. For benefit you need fresh aloe vera. Take out some aloe vera juice and dip a cotton ball in it.

Now apply this juice over the affected eye. You can also use it as an eyewash. For this dissolve some aloe juice in boiled water, cool it and use it to wash the eyes.
