Herbal Remedies For Sun Burn

Aloe Vera

This is an age old remedy for a plethora of skin problems. This herb is anti-inflammatory and antiseptic in nature. It has been seen that aloe vera juice makes the blood vessels to constrict.

This helps in reducing the itching and pain sensation to a large extent. So if you apply aloe vera to the sunburn then the itching, pain and redness will be alleviated to a large extent.

Calendula

It has been suggested by researchers that calendula plant has the ability to close wounds, alleviate inflammation, and stimulate regeneration of skin cells. Many of the commercially available creams contain calendula extracts.

You can use it too to get some relief from the discomfort of sunburn. You can mix it with some honey which is a very god moisturizer and anti-inflammatory element.

Echinacea

Sunburn results from the destruction of skin collagen. If you can slow down the destruction of collagen then sunburn can be cured to a large extent.

The herb Echinacea contains some acids such as caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid etc which have the ability to slow down the destruction of skin collagen. You can apply etchinacea directly on the skin.

Chamomile

This herb has been used for centuries for treatment of skin irritations and prevent infections. It is a anti-inflammatory herb that is also antibiotic in character.

The combination of these qualities can be quite effective for sunburn. You can apply chamomile tea directly on the affected areas at least twice a day. This will alleviate much of the problems of sunburn.

Green Tea

This kind of tea is full of antioxidants, vitamin C and querecetin. All these components are very much helpful in treating and healing sunburn wounds speedily.

The antioxidants also fight the free radical damage due to over exposure to sun. You can apply cold green tea directly on the skin. This will give you considerable relief.

St. Johns Wort

This herb has been used since a long time to treat burn wounds that have just started healing. It can speed up the process of healing. It is quite safe to use this herb on the sunburn areas.

Lavender

This household herb has been used since a long time to treat burns and wounds. Its effect on sunburn has been found to be quite positive too.

The essential oils in lavender can ease the pain, put down the inflammation and speed up healing. The best way to use lavender is to use lavender oil in bath tub.
