A dry cough and sore throat can signify deeper ailments too such as asthma, action of medicine, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cystic fibrosis etc. That is why you should not take such conditions lightly. But if the diagnosis does not result in something serious, you need not visit the doctor again. Nor do you need to take medicines. Simple items available at home can do the trick. Humidification

The mucus lining of your throat may have become dry and that is causing the soreness and resulting in dry cough. If you can moisten the lining the irritation will be reduced, and you can get some comfort. This can be done by humidification of the air around you. You can do this by using a humidifier or by showering in a bathroom filled with water vapor. If you can do this regularly the mucus membranes will remain constantly hydrated. This will alleviate the symptoms to a great extent.

Salt Water Gurgle

This is a age-old remedy for dry cough and sore throat. Salt is mildly analgesic and antiseptic. It is able to draw out water from the mucus membrane thereby helping you to cough out mucus that has become hard and tough to expel.

Take some warm water in a glass and sprinkle some salt in it so as to make the solution just salty. Now gurgle with this so that it touches the deeper crevices of your throat. You will get instant relief. On regular gurgling you will get relief in two to three days. You can also add some baking soda which can kill the bacteria, if any.

Honey

Honey has been used since time immemorial to loosen mucus, kill some microbes, and draw out water from inflamed tissues. It is also soothing for the mucus membrane. You can use honey to treat dry cough and sore throat. Take a tablespoon of honey every day so that it touches the mucus lining well. The mucus will come loose, phelgm will be expelled and the irritation will come down. This will alleviate much of your symptoms.

Lemon

Lemon is a great antibacterial, decongestant and anti-inflammatory. You can benefit from both the smell and taste of lemon. It brings down soreness, reduces inflammation and loosens mucus. The best use of lemon can be by adding a few drops of lemon in a cup of warm water or tea.

Take the tea sip by sip and inhale the vapor. This will decongest the sinuses and chest as well as reduce the soreness in throat. The cough will be gone automatically. Lemon is also rich in vitamin c which helps the immune system to fight the infection effectively.

Apple Cider Vinegar

This wonderful element, the mother of all vinegar has been used for centuries to treat a variety of conditions including inflammation and infection. It can be used to treat dry cough and sore throat too. It is antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal in nature. These properties are due to the presence of acetic acid and malic acid in appreciable amounts. Drop some organic apple cider vinegar in a cup of warm water and take it sip by sip. Also inhale the vapor. Both the taste and smell of apple cider vinegar will relieve you from the dry cough and sore throat.

Cloves

This spice not only adds taste to culinary preparations, it is a good remedy against dry cough and sore throat too. Clove is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, anesthetic and antiseptic. It is also rich in vitamin C.

You can benefit from clove in a variety of ways. You can slowly burn the cloves in a pan and inhale the smell. The essential oil vapor will go into your respiratory system and cure much of the ills.

Garlic

Garlic is antibiotic, anti-inflammatory and rich in vitamin C. It also detoxifies the body. Naturally it will help in combating dry cough and sore throat. So chew on one clove of garlic every day. This will cure much of your symptoms.
