Removal of unwanted hair often results in razor bumps that are painful and irritating. Shaving or plucking of body hair from sensitive areas result in tiny bumps on the skin which are often referred to as razor bumps. The irritation persists and often leads to inflammation, itchiness, redness and other skin infections. To get rid of these problems there are certain home remedies with natural ingredients that you can try.
One of the most effective natural ingredients that can be used to get rid of razor bumps is Aloe Vera gel. Squeeze out fresh gel from an Aloe Vera leaf and apply it generously on the affected area. Leave it for a few minutes and then wash off with cold water. The healing properties of this magical ingredient soothes your skin and the mucopolysaccharides found in Aloe Vera gel helps to efficiently moisturize skin. Besides, its antiseptic property keeps infections at bay.
Essential oils are known for their healing properties and tea tree oil in particular is antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and has antioxidants that help to soothe irritations caused due to razor bumps. To prepare this solution, add 1 to 2 drops of tea tree oil to a tablespoon of a carrier oil like olive oil. Mix the oils thoroughly and apply on the razor bumps. Keep it for 10 to 15 minutes before washing off.
If itching, redness and irritation persists after shaving, try the honey yogurt mixture to soothe the razor bumps. Mix together half teaspoon of honey with 1 tablespoon of plain yogurt. Combine both the ingredients and apply it on the affected area. Let it dry for 10 to 15 minutes. The antibacterial properties of honey will keep infections away and soothe irritated skin effectively. The yogurt also plays an active role in reducing itching and redness.
The anti-inflammatory property of baking soda can soothe razor bumps easily. Prepare a mixture with 1 tablespoon of baking soda and a cup of water. Dip a cotton ball in it and apply it over the bumps. Keep it for a few minutes before washing off. If you apply this twice or thrice a day, razor bumps can be effectively cured.
Apple cider vinegar helps to reduce swelling and itching caused due to razor bumps. It is anti-bacterial in nature and therefore prevents further infection. Dip a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar and dab the affected area with it. Let it air dry and follow this procedure three to four times daily to get best results.
Castor oil is rich in antioxidants, has the ability to kill bacteria, nourish skin and remove dead cells. It is also capable of healing the skin. Razor bumps too can be treated with a few drops of castor oil. Clean the affected area and apply a few drops on the razor bumps. Do not wipe off and let the skin absorb the oil. Practicing this twice a day can effectively take care of irritations.
The cooling cucumber and milk pack provides relief from irritation. It prevents bacterial infection and reduces inflammation considerably. To get rid of razor bumps, mix 1 tablespoon of cucumber puree with 2 tablespoons of milk and leave it in the refrigerator for 15 to 20 minutes. Apply the cold pack on the razor bumps and leave it for 15 minutes, then wash off.
