This is one of the simplest ways to get rid of the hemorrhoid pains. You can create a Sitz bath using a bathtub or you can buy a small bowl like Sitz bath from any medical shop near you.[1] Fill the Sitz bath with warm water and soak yourself in the warm water for 15 minutes after every bowel movement.
Witch hazel has natural anti-inflammatory properties which help in reducing hemorrhoid pain and itching. It contains astringent and oils and you can directly apply it on your hemorrhoids.[2]
Constipation or hard stools may cause pain and bleeding in your rectum which can worsen your hemorrhoids. Fill your daily diet with vegetables, whole grains, beans, fresh fruits, and cereals.[3] Add fibers to your diet plan slowly as it may cause bloating and gas. Fiber is something the body needs but never digests.
Ice compress helps in shrinking the hemorrhoids and reduces the size as well. It also provides instant relief from pain and itching. When you apply ice on the rectal region it numbs the area and reduces inflammation.[4] Take some ice in a soft cloth and gently apply it on your hemorrhoids. It takes around 20 minutes to numb the affected area. You can repeat this three times a day to get effective results.
Most hemorrhoids are caused due to inadequate intake of liquids in your everyday diet routine. An adequate amount of water intake proved to be useful for patients suffering from hemorrhoids.[5] It hydrates your body and helps in your internal digestion system. It keeps your stools soft and reduces the chance of constipation. Drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water daily.
Comfortable clothing helps in reducing the symptoms.[6] At first get rid of those tight fitting, uncomfortable clothes from your closet. Always choose loose, soft and breathable pants and underwear. Comfortable clothing helps avoid the irritation, scratching and sweating of the hemorrhoid area.
Do not make things worse. So instead of any hard surface, sit on a pillow or cushion. It will ease the swelling of the hemorrhoids.[7]
Do not force something to happen. Do not use dry toilet paper. Damp the paper at first. You can also use alcohol-free moistened wipes or cotton balls. Do not use perfumed wipes including toilet tissues.
