Dark upper lips and dark upper lip shadows can occur as a result of excessive bleaching, threading and waxing of the upper lip hair. Stress, bad diet, pigmentation, sun exposure and smoking can also cause dark lips.
While dark lips can be very stubborn there are some cosmetic procedures which can deal with the problem. However, these procedures tend to be costly and expensive. You can lighten the dark lips with the help of simple home remedies.
Home Remedies for Dark Upper Lip Shadow
Lime and Lemon Luice
Rub a lime on your lips. This helps to tackle the pigmentation effectively as lime has natural bleaching properties. You can also dab on some lemon juice on your lips with the help of cotton. If you have a dark upper lip shadow, the lime juice will also help to lighten the hair.
Exfoliate the Lips
Use a honey, lime and sugar scrub to exfoliate your lips and upper lips. This gets rid of the hair which gives your lips a shadow. Exfoliation also removes dark and dead skin cells that help to give the lips a rosy glow.
Rosewater and Glycerine
The use of rose water and glycerine has been touted as an excellent home remedy for dealing with dark lips. Take some pure rose water and add a teaspoon of glycerine to it.
Rub your lips with this solution and wash it off after some time. Do this treatment every day for best results.
Cucumber Juice
Cucumber helps to negate the effects of skin that has been excessively bleached. It soothes, repairs and lightens the skin especially the area of the upper lips. You can combine this again with a bit of lime juice for best results.
Threading
Instead of going in for expensive bleaches and cosmetic products try threading at home. With a little bit of practice anyone can do this at home. Threading will help to get rid of excess upper lip hair without darkening the area or making it pigmented.
Lip Mask
Make a lip mask at home by mixing some gram flour, turmeric, curd and lime juice. Gently scrub your lips with this and wash off after 20 minutes. This mask works well for the face too.
Cut Down on Smoking
If you smoke excessively, you may have to kick the butt as this can lead to excessive darkening of the lips. Gradually cut down on the number of cigarettes you smoke or ban smoking altogether to prevent lip pigmentation.
Wear Sunscreen
Wear hydrating lip balms even when you are at home. Make sure they have some amount of sun protecting factor in them. This will give you adequate sun cover especially when you decide to go out. Also restrict the use of lip cosmetics.
Carrot Juice
Carrots have beta carotene which is excellent for bright eyes and luscious lips. Extract the juice of a few carrots and with the help of some cotton apply the juice on your lips. Do this twice daily for best results.
These home remedies are quite effective and devoid of side effects that are commonly associated with the use of harsh lip products and cosmetics.
