Fungal infections are very common in different parts of the body. Fungi may be living on the body for many years, but some conditions causes the growth of the fungi and will lead to infection. There are around 200 fungal species, but only 20 or 25 species cause infections in human beings.
Fungal infections can be classified into systemic fungal infections and superficial fungal infections. It can occur on the skin surface and also in the mucus membranes, lungs etc. A few common fungal infections include jock itch, ringworm, nail infections, etc. The severity of infections may differ from individual to individual. If left untreated, the infection might spread to other parts too. Fungal infections require treatment and many home remedies are found to be effective for it.
6 Various Home Remedies For Antifungal
White Vinegar
Add some white vinegar to a tub of water and soak your feet and hands inside it. This cures fungus in nails and athletes foot. White vinegar interferes with the pH of the skin and affects the growth of the fungus thus helping in fast healing. Take one-teaspoon white vinegar and mix it with one tumbler of water. Apply this on the skin infected by fungus and let it dry for some time. Wash it with cold water completely.
Repeat this procedure for 2 or 3 times in a day and particularly before sleeping. White vinegar has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, which are strong enough to control various skin infections. Mix one teaspoon white vinegar with half cup butter and make a fine paste. Refrigerate this mixture for five hours and after that apply this mixture on the area infected by jock itch. This soothes the infected skin and helps in curing jock itch, but not recommended for people with sensitive skin.
Garlic
Garlic has antibacterial and antifungal properties. The antifungal properties of garlic have been documented by various clinical studies, which showed that the samples of blood taken from people who consumed garlic regularly showed significant antifungal activity, which helps in combating the fungal infection.
Take some raw garlic cloves and crush them. Apply this crushed garlic or its extract on the infected area. It will kill the fungus and cure the infection effectively. This is one of the easiest and effective remedies for treating the problem.
Ginger
Ginger has more than twenty compounds, which have antifungal properties. Take a piece of ginger and wash it well. Shred the ginger and boil it in a glass of water.
Drink this decoction thrice a day to cure fungal infection and you can use the decoction as a compress on the skin infected with fungus. Soak a ball of cotton in ginger decoction and place it over the fungal infection for five minutes. Repeat this several times in a day to heal the infection fast.
Baking Soda
Take one tablespoon of baking soda and add some water to it to make a thick paste. Apply this paste on your feet and leave it for some time. Once dried, wash the feet completely and then apply talcum powder to the feet. This reduces fungal infection as well as itching and burning, which are usually associated with this kind of infection.
Clove Powder
Apply clove powder on the infected region of the skin. This alleviates the symptoms and discomfort associated with the infection and quickens the healing process.
Clove has antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties. It improves the blood circulation of the body as well. It is quite effective in treating athlete’s foot. Instead of clove powder, clove oil can also be used to treat the fungal problem.
Onion
Onions have powerful antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties. They are useful in treating fungal infections, especially on the skin. Take two onions, cut them and grind them to make a fine paste.
Apply this paste on the infected area. Leave the paste for 30 minutes and then wash the area completely with lukewarm water and allow it to dry. Onion juice can also be used instead of onion paste. Onions detoxifies the body as well.
