Muscle SorenessWhen there is wear and tear of the muscles of any part of the body especially when the muscles are exerted as a part of exercise or stretches pain is inflicted in that particular which is being exercised and this pain is termed as muscle soreness.  Muscle soreness happens generally to people who start exercising for the first time or after a long gap of period or take up any strenuous activity which they are not use to do as a part of the daily routine like climbing stairs, extra household work, long walks or any other strenuous activity.

Due to inactivity or a sedentary lifestyle the muscles tend to get stiff and when these stiff muscles are worked out, the body produces lactic acid which is the main reason of muscle soreness. The effect of lactic acid in the body generally lasts for 2-3 days after which the body gets accustomed to the wear and tear of the muscles due to exercise.

Best Remedies For Muscle Soreness

Hot Compresses

Fill a basin with some hot water and dip a clean cotton towel into it. Wring out the excess water and wrap the towel around the sore muscle. Dip again into the hot water after a few minutes and repeat the process.

You can also use a hot water bag or an electric heating pad to relieve the pain. Heat tends to loosen up the stiff muscles, which is very relaxing. Steam, sauna or hot water bath are also very good options for relieving the soreness and pain. One can also soak or pour warm water mixed with Epsom salt on the body.

Massage With Mustard Oil

Mustard oil has tremendous healing powers as it is rich in magnesium which can reduce the pain and relieve the soreness. Heat some mustard oil and massage the sore muscles with it for twenty minutes to ease the soreness. Massage increases the blood flow to the muscles releasing the stiffness, and pain.

Stretches

Stretches are very important before and after workout. If proper stretches are not done before and after a workout there can be serious injury leading to muscles damage. Regular stretches makes the body flexible, tones and strengthens the muscles thus preventing muscle cramps and soreness.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is effective in muscle soreness. Take a glass of warm water and add one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to it. Stir in one teaspoon of honey and one teaspoon of lemon juice and drink this mixture twice daily.

You can also apply apple cider vinegar directly to the affected muscle and keep for two hours before washing it off with lukewarm water.

Turmeric

Turmeric has powerful anti-inflammatory and pain relieving properties which can alleviate muscle soreness quickly and effectively. Mix one teaspoon of turmeric powder into a glass of hot milk and drink it just before going to bed.
