Diabetes is a metabolic disorder in which the patient has high glucose levels in the blood. It is caused by either insufficient insulin or the body cells are unable to respond and use the insulin properly. Type 1 diabetes is caused by inadequate production of insulin and people suffering from this are totally dependant upon outside source of insulin.
In type 2 diabetes the body produces enough insulin but it is unable to respond it for utilization. This form of diabetes is more common and can be easily controlled by dietary changes, losing weight, exercise and medication. The symptoms for both kinds of diabetes are extreme fatigue and weakness, unusual thirst or hunger, blurred vision, nausea, vomiting, frequent urination and irritability.
In a diabetic condition, lipid peroxidation increases due to high oxidative stress. Studies have revealed that antioxidants are capable of reducing oxidative stress by removing the harmful free radicals from the body and reducing the chances of diabetic complications.
This herb is commonly known as bhuiawala and is found all over India except in the northern colder parts. This traditional herb has been used since time unknown to treat diabetes. It is rich in compounds which have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic properties. It reduces the blood sugar effectively and helps in keeping its levels low in the blood. Take 4 ml of phlyllanthus amarus extract daily.
Babul is a common wild tree that is found all over India. The seeds and bark of this herb have anti-diabetic activity. They enhance the function of the pancreas and help in the secretion of insulin. The antioxidant properties remove the harmful free radicals, reduce oxidative stress and control cholesterol levels in the body.
Soak two teaspoons of the shredded bark and a few seeds in two cups of boiling water. Cover the pan and allow it to stand for twelve hours. Filter the liquid and drink four tablespoons of it twice daily.
