Mehendi

Mehendi is a great conditioner and hair tonic. It has been used since ancient times as a beauty aid. It is famous for its cooling effect and wonderful protective and restorative powers. It brings back health to the damaged hair and promotes healthy growth.

It is also a great cleanser and cleans the hair and the scalp without disturbing their natural balances. Mix two teaspoons of mehendi powder with some curds to form a paste. Apply the paste to the scalp and the hair and leave for half an hour after which rinse with warm water.

Amla

Amla is the purest form of vitamin C. It also contains other essential nutrients which not only nourish the hair but also darken it and enhance its natural color. It makes the hair strong and resilient and promotes new growth.

It is also a natural cleanser and once you start using amla you don’t have to resort to commercial shampoos and conditioners. Mix two teaspoons of amla powder into one cup of curd. Add a few drops of lemon juice. Mix well and apply the mixture on the scalp and hair. Keep for half an hour after which rinse with warm water.

Shikakai

You can make your own herbal shampoo with shikakai. This herb has been used since time unknown as a traditional shampoo. It strengthens the hair roots, provides shine and luster to the hair and increases its volume. Soak four teaspoons of shikakai powder in half a litre of water overnight. In the morning boil the mixture for five minutes. Cool the mixture and filter it. Wash your hair with the shikakai water.

Aloe Vera

This herb is very good for the hair. It not only promotes hair growth but also arrests hair loss. It provides the scalp with vital nourishment and strengthens the hair shafts.

It also cleans the hair and scalp thoroughly without destroying any natural qualities of the hair. Take an aloe vera leaf and skin it to remove the pulp. Mash the pulp thoroughly and add a teaspoon of olive oil to it. Rub the scalp and the hair with this mixture. Keep for ten minutes then rinse with warm water.

Bhringaraj

For thick dark hair massage your scalp with bhringaraj oil thoroughly. Keep overnight and in the morning you can rinse off with warm water.
