6 Best Home Remedies For Abscessed Tooth

Share

The tooth abscess usually occurs when the decay is not timely or properly treated. A crack or break in a tooth can also sometimes lead to abscess because the bacteria enter the tooth’s pulp causing infection. This can be quite painful and the pus-filled area needs immediate treatment.

If a tooth abscess is left untreated, it can lead to serious health complications like mediastinitis, jaw bone infection, sepsis, and tooth loss. If the infectivity spreads to other areas, it can result in endocarditis, brain abscess or pneumonia. There are several home treatments that can help in relieving the pain.

6 Home Remedies For Abscessed Tooth

Saline Solution

Gargling with saline water brings some relief from pain. The warm water is soothing to the oral cavity, whereas the salt works as an antiseptic. The blood and pus must be drained, whenever there is an eruption of abscess. Make sure the blood and pus is spit out. Gargling with warm salt solution will aid in drainage. The saline solution can be prepared by mixing salt (2 tsp) in hot water (1 cup). Allow the salt to dissolve and wait till the water is lukewarm. Use this to rinse your mouth 2 times a day.

Clove Oil

Clove oil acts as an anesthetic and is the best home remedy for tooth abscess. Instead of oil, you can chew up a clove directly.

Since clove can cause hyperacidity, make sure you do not swallow the residue on an empty stomach. Alternatively, you can mix ground cloves and olive oil and apply it on the tooth that is infected.

Cold Pack

You can use a cold pack to relieve pain. Pressing cold items on the outer surface of your mouth will bring temporary relief from toothache. This remedy is especially useful, when you have trouble in sleeping. You can replace the ice pack with other cold items from your freezer or fridge. You can use a cold water bottle or mustard jar etc. If the container or bottle is frozen, use a wash cloth to cover it before you place it on your skin.
