Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder which is the result of eating very less than required for that age.  People with anorexia live in constant fear of gaining weight and they go in for extreme measures like exercising, dieting, fasting even though they are underweight. This restriction of food intake leads to metabolic and hormonal disorder.

The cortisol hormone related to stress is in higher level and serotonin and norepinephrine, which are associated with feelings of well-being, are at decreased levels with patients of anorexia. In the initial stages it is better to have orange juice with warm water every morning in an empty stomach. This should be continued in regular intervals throughout the day. The carminative properties in orange stimulate flow of digestive juices, improve digestion and increases appetite.

Vitamin C as an antioxidant boosts the immune system and helps to regulate the blood sugar levels. It contains vitamin B, such as thiamin (B1) which proves beneficial in increasing appetite, energy intake, body weight and general well-being. Prepare a juice containing equal parts of lime juice , ginger juice and water, to it add a bit of rock or sea salt and have it before meals daily. Carbohydrates trigger the release of serotonin and a high protein increases levels of dopamine and norepinephrine which are associated with well being. Cortisol is released in response to fear or stress by the adrenal glands. If there is no physical release cortisol levels will build up in the blood and will psychologically affect the mind and body. Kick boxing or punching bag lets out the aggression and thus help in reducing cortisol levels.

Other activities include walking, jogging, swimming which helps in burning up cortisol. Regular exercise reduces fear and increases self confidence thus reducing cortisol levels.

Try doing meditation, listen to music that you love, laugh a lot, cultivate some hobbies for relaxation as this will calm down stress thus reducing cortisol levels.
