Clogged arteries result from a build up of plaque on the inner walls of the arteries which are otherwise smooth and even and the blood flows easily through them to all the organs of the body. The plaque is formed from various substances that circulate in the blood like calcium, cholesterol, fat, cellular waste, and fibrin which is a material that is involved in blood clotting. A buildup of it can disrupt the blood flow or obstruct it altogether increasing the risk of serious illnesses like heart attack and stroke. When the formation of plaque takes place, the cells in the artery walls respond by multiplying and secreting additional substances that further worsen the condition of clogged arteries. The arteries lose their flexibility and they become hard and narrow and the artery walls get bruised and injured. High levels of bad cholesterol are major contributors to plaque formation and a cause of clogged arteries.

Green Tea

The first line of treatment is to remove all the harmful free radicals and other floating impurities from the blood and to purify it thoroughly to prevent the deposition of plaque.

Green tea is unaccountably rich in powerful antioxidants which not only purify the blood but also reduce the levels of the bad cholesterol. Boil a cup of water and steep one teaspoon of green tea into it for ten minutes. Strain the tea and drink three to four cups of it daily.

Fish Oil

Fish oil contains a wealth of nutrients that keep the body in a healthy state. It is also exceptionally rich in omega 3 fatty acids which have a strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory action which reduce the level of low density lipoprotein in the blood and contribute to the health of the blood vessels. Amla

Clogged arteries are also caused by high blood pressure which leads to the hardening of the arterial walls. Amla being rich in vitamin C has distinctive free radical scavenging properties which not only protect the heart but also reduce the bad cholesterol levels in the blood and lower the blood pressure. Grate two amlas and soak them in a cup of hot water for ten minutes. Consume the mixture without straining. You can add a teaspoon of honey if you prefer.

Turmeric

Turmeric has potent medicinal values which help to cure a vast number of diseases and ailments. Its polyphenolic compounds known as curcumin have anti-inflammatory action and which reduce the oxidation of low density lipoprotein and keep the cholesterol levels in the blood under check and prevent their deposition in the form of plaque. Mix one teaspoon of turmeric powder into a glass of hot milk and consume it each night before going to bed.

Garlic

Garlic has been used since time immemorial for maintaining the health of the blood vessels. Garlic has strong abilities of clearing the plaque from the arteries by reducing the cholesterol levels and by thinning the blood.
