5 Best Home Remedies For Gastric Acid

Share

Gastric acid is produced in the stomach to aid digestion. This digestive fluid is composed of hydrochloric acid, potassium chloride and sodium chloride. This fluid is crucial for digestion. It mainly helps in digesting the proteins from the food.

The acid unravels the ingested proteins and activates digestive enzymes which help in the breaking down of long chains of amino acids. The cells in the lining of the stomach produce gastric acid and increase and decrease its production as required. Other cells produce bicarbonate which acts as a buffer to the acidic activity.

These cells also produce mucous which forms a thick glutinous barrier and prevents the acid from damaging the lining of the stomach. When too much acid is produced, it results in heartburn, ulcers and dyspepsia. Too much of animal food, alcohol, spices and non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are some of the common causes of excess gastric acid.
