Best Home Remedies For Menorrhagia

Share

Normally a menstrual cycle comes in 25-30 days in which one tends to bleed normally for 5days. But in menorrhagia, the bleeding continues well past 7 days and is quite heavy. The menstrual cycle is also disturbed, making the periods come at irregular and frequent intervals. The main symptoms of menorrhagia are larger blood clots, unbearable stomach pain, and tiredness.

The main causes of this condition are hormonal changes, formation of fibroids in the uterus, (these fibroids are not cancerous), miscarriage and uterus cancer. Problems related to the kidneys, liver or thyroid can also cause excessive bleeding. In a normal menstrual cycle, one tends to lose about 25-30ml of blood. In menorrhagia the blood loss is above 80ml. With so much blood loss one becomes weak and anemic. Constant stomach cramps and fatigue makes it difficult to carry out normal daily activities properly.

Home Remedies For Menorrhagia

Cinnamon

Cinnamon has powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties which not only scavenge all the harmful free radicals and expel them from the body but also help to regulate the blood flow during menstruation.

Boil a cup of water and add one pounded stick of cinnamon to it. Simmer on a low heat for half a minute then turn off the heat. Allow the tea to stand for ten minutes then strain it and drink it three times daily during heavy bleeding.

Spinach

Spinach is a good source of vitamin K and contains large quantities of phytochemicals which help to maintain the hormonal balance in the body. Vitamin K plays an important role in controlling blood clotting and a deficiency of it causes excessive bleeding. Eat two helpings of lightly steamed spinach everyday. Lettuce leaves are also rich in vitamin K you can include them in your salads.

Ginger

Ginger is another very good remedy for menorrhagia. Its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties can reduce the inflammation in the uterus and can provide considerable relief in the stomach cramps.

Ginger also improves circulation and detoxifies the body completely. Boil a pan of water and add two grated teaspoons of ginger to it. Simmer on a low heat for one minute then cover the pan. After ten minutes strain a cup of the tea and keep drinking it throughout the day.

Marigold Flowers

Marigold flowers are very good for curing menorrhagia. Pluck the petals from a few marigold flowers and boil them in one liter of water on a low heat for ten minutes. Strain the water and keep drinking cupfuls of it three times daily. Start drinking this water a few days ahead of your periods and continue drinking it till the fifth day of your period.

Raw Papaya

Raw papaya is very good for regulating the blood flow and for reducing the abdominal cramps. It also helps the uterus to contract smoothly and in a relaxed manner thus easing the blood flow. Cut a raw papaya into some thin slices and steam them lightly. Sprinkle some lime juice and salt onto the slices and eat a few of them with your meals.
