Turmeric is a natural anti-inflammatory and can treat any type of body pain in a small matter of time. There are two recipes that you can try with turmeric. Firstly, mix 2 teaspoons of turmeric powder to a glass of water and heat it making sure it doesn’t boil off. Drink this twice a day.
Or you can simply take the extract from turmeric roots and mix it with lukewarm milk. Take this before going to bed as it helps reduce the inflammation in your ankle. However, the second recipe is not advisable for lactose intolerant people.
Sprains are the most affected by an alternate hot and cold environment as it attacks the area of the inflammation with different pressure buildup. Use two gel packs. Apply the hot pack for about 20 minutes followed by the cold one for the next 20 minutes.
Make sure that the ice hits the affected area directly. The more it causes discomfort the more it is working against your swollen ligament. Do this continuously for sometime not giving time to your ligament to relax before changing the temperature drastically.
Cabbage leaves are an extremely useful ingredient both for internal ingestion and external pain. Take the outer leaves of a cabbage and blanch them in boiling water for a few minutes. Immediately after this, place them in icy water to nullify further cooking of the cabbage leaves. Now apply them directly on your ankle and wrap it around your foot like a bandage. Rest it for about 30 minutes before removing them.
Chop onion slices into fine cubes or thin rings according to your preference. Warm them up slices and then place in between a cotton pad so that the heat does not affect the injured area directly.
Now place the pad gently on the sprain and if possible, slowly rub the onions in a circular motion. This allows the chemicals from the onion cubes to reduce the inflammation and produces instant relief.
Believe it or not but no amount of medication or homemade remedies can match up to the wholeness of an exercise. In order to strengthen the injured ankle as well as to prevent further injuries, try a range of motion exercises and stretches. Try various leg exercises like twisting your foot from your ankle in a circular motion.
Rotating your ankle reduces the stiffness that accompanies with the sprain. Also, place your foot flat on the ground and move your knees side to side all the while not taking your feet off the ground. These exercises work like magic!
