Grape juice is a natural expectorant and its vitamin C content will help in kick starting the immune system response as well, thereby taking care of your cough in a couple of days. Take two glasses of grape juice, sweetened with sugar or honey to reduce the bacterial action as well.
Pepper too makes your body hot and reduces the action of germs in your body. Crush a few pepper berries and take it along with some honey, lemon or water or just chew them on their own.
They help in removing bacteria from the respiratory tract and also in melting the phlegm. When your nose starts running after the intake of pepper, you can blow your nose and cough the phlegm out for fast relief.
These medicinal seeds are known to relieve phlegm from your body and also remove the bacteria that are causing the cough. Take some cumin seeds and chew themdown your throat. The vitamin C and iron that contain in cumin seeds will also increase your immune system response to the bacteria and help in fighting the bacteria off as well.
Garlic has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory and this can easily treat the symptoms of cough and chest congestion before it turns worse. As soon as the cough surfaces, chew some garlic cloves to suppress the bacteria and remove the cough as fast as it has started.
Garlic can also be taken as tablets and as an infusion if you want to prevent the bad odor to a certain degree. Take a few cloves of garlic and add this to one cup of boiling water. Simmer for ten minutes and then take it hot along with some honey.

Betel leaves are known for its antiseptic properties. It is used for curing digestive as well as respiratory ailments. Take a betel leaf and wash thoroughly. Add two cloves and chew it.
This will help in relieving the bacteria inside the throat and respiratory tract. Persistent cough can be treated by taking one teaspoon of turmeric powder along with a betel leaf. Night time cough can be treated by adding one tablespoon of ajwain to betel leaf and chewing it down your throat before going to bed.
One of the best grandma’s remedies that still work like a charm, taking turmeric along with a glass of warm milk is known to cure cough.
Turmeric has antibacterial properties and also reduces inflammation in the respiratory tract. Alternatively, take a teaspoon of turmeric and drink with a spoon of honey or lemon. Turmeric can also be added to a cup of hot water and consumed several times a day.
