Inhalation can be done with the help of a diffuser or by adding 1-2 drops of essential oil in steaming water and you can inhale the steam by wrapping a towel around the head. Aroma candles and incense sticks are also used for indirect inhalation. You should light aroma candles in your bedroom to destress yourself and for a sound sleep.
Direct application of essential oils should be done carefully. The oils have to be mixed with carrier oils to prevent irritation. Essential oils are easily absorbed in the skin and mix with the blood stream, hence their effects are long lasting and often permanent.
Extract of Peppermint, lavender and eucalyptus are especially beneficial for medicinal purposes.
Aromatherapy has a vast potential to improve the beauty of your skin and hair. Essential oils are used to treat wrinkles, acne, dry skin and cellulite. Essential oils are added in various beauty products to heal and nourish the skin. They contain regenerative properties and they rejuvenate the skin to make it soft and supple.
Aromatherapy essential oils are great to stimulate hair growth. They are used as a remedy to cure dandruff and prevent pre mature greying of hair. Essential oils are mixed with other hair oils for head massage to stimulate blood circulation in the scalp and for thick growth of hair. You can mix essential oils in your shampoo or conditioner for healthy and disease free hair.
Essential oils body massage gives double benefits of aromatherapy. It helps the body to relax and in the process you benefit by aromatherapy through inhalation process. Massage with essential oils help to relieve tension and stress. It removes fatigue from the body and rejuvenates the body cells. Try applying essential oil on painful joints and sore muscles to reduce pain and relax muscles.
Add a few drops of essential oil in a tub of warm water and soak in it to rest your tired limbs and soothe your nerves. Peppermint, Rosemary, Ylang Ylang and Sage are especially effective in aromatherapy for relaxation.
You should not use essential oil therapy without consulting an expert. Always use essential oils diluted with base oils like almond oil, olive oil or jojoba oil.
Do a patch test before buying an essential oil to make sure that it suits your skin.
