The cartilage known as septum that separates the nose into two nostrils can lead to rupture sometimes that leads to the health condition known as a nosebleed. A mass of blood vessels lies on either side of the septum; these blood vessels called Kiesselbach’s plexus are easy to get wounded as they are very delicate that leads to incessant bleeding.
Although unexpected or persistent bleeding from anywhere is a warning sign and should be checked immediately; nosebleeds are not a sign of serious illness. They are usually a result of minor injury or irritation. There are a few commonly found herbs that help in curing nosebleeds and can be found easily.
5 Herbal Remedies For Nose Bleeding
Cayenne Pepper
It is used in our cooking and various household purposes. But the less known fact is that it works like a miracle when it comes to curing nosebleeds.
It is very effective and can be applied directly in paste form into the nostrils. Powdered Cayenne can also be applied externally. Applying this for at least twice a day brings noticeable results.
Goldenseal
This plant is also known as orange root. It has various medicinal properties like anti microbial, anti-inflammatory, emmenagogue, hepatic, anticatarrhal, laxative, and oxytocic. This alkaloid-rich herb is a potential drug to control nosebleed.
A medicinal portion is made out of boiling the Goldenseal herb in water, similar to tea making. After cooling the portion, it can be inhaled or poured into the nostrils. Avoid its use more than three weeks and give a break of at least two weeks to use again as long term use may cause Vitamin B deficiency.
Indian Gooseberry
This is commonly known as Amla. This traditional herb can be easily used to get relief from nose bleeding owing to its antibacterial and astringent properties. A few drops of the extracted juice into the bleeding nostril will help stop the blood flow.
Another way of using Indian gooseberry is to soak them in water overnight and then use the extracted water solution to treat nosebleeds. But this herb should be used with discretion. This herb should be avoided when you are pregnant, or have high blood pressure and if you are allergic to plants in the daisy family such as chamomile and marigold.
Yarrow
Yarrow is a persistent herb and known as a powerful ‘curative herb’ used for injuries, cuts and scratches. This century old Chinese herbal remedy is also used to control bleeding nose.
The leaf of Yarrow supports clotting, so it can be freshly ground or rolled up and stuffed into the nostril. After this, pressure needs to be applied in order to control and completely stop the bleeding.
Cypress
This medicinal herb has strong antiseptic and antispasmodic properties. This is one of the effective herbal cures for nosebleeds and also helps in checking any other kind of bleeding as well.
All you have to do is to grind the cypress seeds and make a paste and apply in the bleeding nostril for 2-3 times a day. In the same way, it can be used for wounds in other parts of the body. You can also pour 25 drops of cypress tincture in about half a cup of water and consume it three to four times in a day to get relief from nose bleeding.
