Effective Home Remedies For Abdominal Pain

Share

Abdominal pain is fairly common among women than men. The reasons can be several including menstrual cramps and something more serious involving reproductive, digestive or excretory organs of the body. Mostly, we are predisposed to seeking conventional treatment methods for severe abdominal pain. But the good news is that most of these pains can be dealt with at home through the use of home remedies as well as natural treatment methods. Here are some wonderful options to explore.

Ways To Cure Abdominal Pain At Home

Position Change

For immediate relief from severe abdominal pain, sometimes a change of position is all you need. Instead of lying down flat on the bed, try sitting in an upright position by elevating your head slightly when you lie down. Sometimes it helps if you lie sideways. Try different positions to suit which one alleviates your pain.

Heat Treatment

Applying heat on the affected area is a great way to alleviate abdominal pain. You can use a hot water bottle or use a hot cloth on your abdominal region for 15-20 minutes to reduce the severity of the pain. Application of a wet compress is much more effective than a hot water bottle as the steam is directly absorbed by the skin, offering great relief.

Chamomile sooths and calms the abdominal walls and ensures that your pain is reduced considerably. Take one tablespoon of dried chamomile and add to a cup of boiling water. Steep for about 15 minutes and take it 3-4 times a day.

Ginger

One of the best home remedies for treating all kinds of pains, ginger can just be chewed on and the juice swallowed in order to reduce the abdominal pain. Ginger cures indigestion, takes care of infections and also removes the pain. Boil a piece of crushed ginger with a cup of water.

Simmer for about 10 minutes and add some lemon as well. Take this several times a day to remove abdominal pain. You may also want to try massaging ginger paste on to your belly button to relieve abdominal pain. Add a few drops of warm olive oil along with the paste for better absorption.

Fenugreek

Fenugreek cures indigestion related stomach pain and other stomach disorders. Boil a tablespoon of fenugreek seeds along with a litre of water. This water can be taken throughout the day for relief from indigestion and stomach pain.

Probiotics

If you suffer from frequent stomach pain which could be due to irritable bowel syndrome, indigestion etc. adding probiotics to your daily diet helps. Probiotics helps in maintaining the balance of good and bad bacteria in the stomach, aiding in the digestion process and increasing your resistance to diseases. Yoghurt with live culture is the best source of good bacteria and hence one cup of yoghurt a day will eliminate abdominal pain and stomach upset. Probiotic supplements too are available in drug stores.
