Effective Home Remedies For Blocked Nose

Share

Stuffy or blocked nose is usually caused due to nasal swelling, which is a result of inflamed blood vessels or mucus build-up. Fungus or mold, flu, allergies, nasal sprays, virus or bacteria are some of the factors that can cause nasal congestion.

A blocked nose could lead to sore throats and sinus pain. You can get relief from this problem by using natural home remedies.

Home Remedies To Treat Blocked Nose

Apple Cider Vinegar

The potassium in apple cider vinegar helps in decreasing mucus production. Besides, the acetic acid present in the vinegar prevents the growth of bacteria even those that will cause nasal congestion. Mix apple cider vinegar (1/2 cup), warm water (1/2 cup) and local honey (1 tsp). Drink this concoction at regular intervals throughout the day.

Tomato Tea

This spicy and hot tea is one of the effective methods to relieve blocked nose. Besides clearing your sinuses, it also boosts the immune system.

The ingredients required to prepare the tea are: tomato juice (1 cup), fresh garlic (1 tsp), hot sauce (1/ tsp), lemon juice (1 tsp) and a pinch of celery or sea salt. Blend all the above ingredients in a food-processor. Heat on a stove until it is steaming hot. You can get relief within fifteen minutes of drinking this tea.

Ginger Tea

Take some ginger tea along with local honey and coconut milk. Besides tasting amazing, it also clears the phlegm and boosts the immune system.

Steaming To Get Relief From Blocked Nose

Steam will open the sinuses and allows the collected mucus to be drained. Boil water in a large vessel. Remove from the heat and lean over the pot, so that you are exposed to the vapor.

Continue the inhalation until the steam lasts. You’ll find that the nose clears within an hour! Sitting in a steam or sauna room for about 20 to 30 minutes will also help in clearing your sinuses.

Saline Solution

This is one of the popular methods used for clearing stuffed nose. It clears the nasal congestion quickly. Take lukewarm water (1/2 cup) and salt (1/4 tsp). Mix them together and use 2 drops at a time in each nostril to ease the blockage. This will loosen the mucus. Afterwards, lie on your stomach, so that the mucus is drained out.

Grape Juice And Honey

You can get rid of the mucus by drinking a concoction prepared by mixing grape juice and honey. Consume this home remedy 3 times a day for 5 days. The expectorant properties present in the grape juice help in curing the problem.

Onion

You might have noticed that your nose and eyes water every time an onion is peeled. This minor annoyance can be turned into a natural therapy.

Peel a few onions and the mucus that clogs the nose will soon disappear. Garlic, hot peppers and menthol also produce similar results.

Mint

Heat water in a large pot and add mint leaves (a handful). Once the water starts boiling remove from the heat. Drape a towel over the head and lean over the pot with hot liquid. Inhale the vapors. This will open up the sinuses and the mucus secretions will dry up. Eucalyptus leaves can also be added to the liquid before inhaling.
