Share

Seborrheic dermatitis is a skin condition in which the skin becomes inflamed and full of yellowish white flaky scales. It usually affects those areas where there is more oil like the scalp, nose, face and the inside of the ears. This disease is mainly caused by improper diet, lack of certain nutrients and a weak and improperly functioning immune system.

Irritation from a yeast known as Malassezia, obesity, stress, extreme fatigue, harsh weather, oily skin, acne, neurological diseases and lack of personal hygiene can also contribute to it. Sometimes, the chemicals found in soaps, shampoos, lotions, creams and face wash also irritate the skin and cause seborrheic dermatitis. There is intense itching and rough plaques form on large areas of the skin like the chest and the scalp. There can also be redness and lesions appear which look oily and greasy. The skin becomes thick, coarse and flaky and presents a very ugly sight. This disease tends to run in families and even newborns can have it.
