17 Effective Home Remedies For Stomach Ache

A stomach ache is one of the most common ailments that can occur in the body. A stomach ache can occur anywhere in the region between the chest and the groin. Some of the major causes of stomach ache are food poisoning, hernia, ruptured appendix, indigestion, gas, bloating, ulcers, constipation and inflammation of the bladder.

A severe urinary tract infection can also lead to severe stomach ache. If you are at home and do not have access to immediate medical relief, you can use any of the following home remedies to alleviate the stomach ache.

Home Remedies For Stomach Ache

Mint Juice, Lime Juice And Ginger Juice

Take a teaspoon full of mint juice and lime juice and mix the two well. To this, add a pinch of black salt and half a teaspoon of ginger juice. This concoction cures a number of digestive ailments like gas, bloating, indigestion and helps to give relief from the pain.

Asafoetida

Asafoetida can be used to alleviate stomach ache. Heat a teaspoon of asafoetida in 3 tablespoons of water. Allow to cool just a little. The concoction should still be moderately hot. Take a piece of cotton and massage the asafoetida on your belly area. This is an age-old home remedy and gives instant respite from stomach ache.

Soda Water

If you have stomach ache due to acidity or indigestion, soda water is very good. It is aerated, helps you to burp and release the excess gas that has accumulated in your stomach, which is causing discomfort. Have unsweetened soda water that does not have any sugar in it.

Lemon Juice And Rock Salt

Squeeze out the juice of two lemons and dilute the juice well in water. To this, add a pinch of rock salt. Rock salt is said to be very good not only for health but also for digestion.

Aniseeds

You can soak 20 Gms of aniseeds overnight and strain the water the next day. Try to sip on this water throughout the day to get relief from acidity and digestion.

Carom Seeds

Carom seeds are also good for alleviating stomach ache. You can simply swallow a tablespoon of carom seeds and chew on them slowly. Alternately, you can soak them overnight and have the water as soon as you get up in the morning.

Chamomile Tea

Chamomile tea is a muscle relaxant and helps to relax the smooth muscles of the digestive tract thus giving a lot of relief from pain. You can bring home some chamomile tea bags and have a cup of tea everyday to prevent and treat stomach ache.

Fenugreek Seeds

Soak fenugreek seeds and prepare a paste of them. Mix the paste along with curd and have this once every day. This is a great home remedy for treatment and prevention of stomach ache.

Take Rest

Rest is one of the best ways to treat a stomach ache. This is especially true if you are battling a severe bout of food poisoning. Taking adequate rest will help the body to fight off the infection. Lie down on the bed, put your feet up, close your eyes and just relax. If you are having heartburn, keep your head in an elevated position to prevent the bile from rising up into your food pipe.

Peppermint Tea

Tea made of peppermint is said to be excellent for dealing with stomach pain. It helps to calm the muscles of the stomach thus reducing the contractions that are causing the stomach ache. It also allows the body to painlessly digest the food without giving your heartburn or acidity.

Heating Pads

Heating pads or warm compresses can go a long way in making the pain less severe. Heating pads work in conditions where the patient is suffering from stomach pain due to severe menstrual cramps. Place the heating pad on the tender area and leave it there for 20 minutes. You should start to feel better soon after. You can also take a hot water shower, which helps to give a lot of relief from the stomach ache.

Take An Antacid

An antacid like tums is easily stocked at home by most people. Pop an antacid especially if you have a lot of heartburn, flatulence and acidity. This should give you some relief.

Obesity and excess weight can compound any digestive ills that you may be suffering from. People who carry extra weight around their midsections complain of acidity and indigestion. Eating curd can greatly improve your digestive health and also enhance your general immunity. Curd helps to increase the density of the good bacteria in the body, which prevents infection by harmful parasites that cause food poisoning. You will have to avoid curd if you are lactose intolerant.

Drink Enough Fluids And Water

If you are suffering from stomach pain due to food poisoning, make sure that you intake of fluids like soups and water is adequate otherwise you could suffer from dehydration. For small children ensure that they are getting oral rehydration solution every ten minutes. This helps to maintain the electrolyte balance in the body.

Drink Bottled Water

Many people succumb to stomach pain, food poisoning and indigestion when they are travelling abroad. This is due to consumption of unpackaged water. Stick to mineral water or bottled water only. The same goes for food. Eat from reputable restaurants only. Avoid eating street food especially when the hygiene is debatable.

Baking Soda

You can dissolve a teaspoon of baking soda in your regular glass of water and drink this up. You get the same benefit as that of a normal OTC antacid. The only difference is that the concoction is made up of a household ingredient. With the simple steps above, you can easily alleviate a stomach pain with the help of home remedies and home cures.
