UTI or urinary tract infection is a common infection that is created in the urethra by a bacterium. It can cause serious damage to your kidneys if not treated in the early stages. Home Remedies For UTI
1. Water
Water is the best therapy to flush out infection. Even in normal case one should drink about 8 glasses of water in a day. If you are suffering from UTI you should increase your water intake to help clean the system. Water will increase the flow of urine and it will help to wash away the bacteria. Add a few drops of lemon juice to the water to improve the taste and lemon juice will maintain the potassium level in the body that may be lost by way of frequent urination.
2. Buttermilk
Buttermilk also removes harmful bacteria from the urinary tract and it also helps to maintain energy level. It relieves irritation and burning sensation that is felt during UTI.
3. Milk With Soda
Mix milk and soda in 1:1 proportion and drink it at regular intervals.
4. Baking Soda
Mix ½ tea spoon baking soda in a glass of fresh water and drink it. This is an effective remedy for UTI.
5. Cranberry Juice
Cranberry juice is the most useful home remedy to treat urinary tract infection. You can mix cranberry juice with apple juice to make it more palatable.
6. Rice Starch
Take half a glass of rice starch and mix 1 teaspoon sugar to it. Drink this mixture to cure UTI. It is a safe remedy and can be given to children also. Barley water is an excellent drink for any kind of kidney disease. It helps to clean the bowels by flushing out all the impurities from the system. To treat UTI take 1 cup of barley and boil it in one litre of water. Strain it and cool it. Drink this water frequently during the day.
7. Indian Gooseberry (Amla)
Amla contains large amounts of Vitamin C which is very effective in treating bladder infection. Take 60 grams of amla juice and mix it with 30 grams of honey. Mix it well and take this dose three times a day.

8. Wheat
Soak 12 grams wheat in a glass of water at night. Next morning, strain the water and add 25 grams crystallized sugar (mishri) and drink it. This remedy will help to relieve the irritation in the urinary tract.
9. Coriander
To cure the burning sensation while passing urine, soak 15 grams coriander seeds in a glass of water. Next morning grind them to a paste and add mishri according to your taste and eat it. You can also soak dried amla with coriander seeds overnight and use it as mentioned above to treat UTI.
10. Onion
Onion holds great medicinal value. It is a rich source of sulphur and acts as a natural anti biotic. It is very effective remedy for urinary tract infection. Chop 50 grams onion finely and boil it with 500 ml. Water till the water is reduced to half. Strain the water and drink it in small doses.
11. Green Cardamom
You can take green cardamom powder with milk to treat urinary tract infection. Green cardamom and milk have cooling properties that help to give relief from burning sensation. Along with above mentioned remedies pomegranate juice and watermelon juice are also beneficial for UTI. These juices increase the urine and help to clean the urinary tract of the bacteria. Increase the intake of water based vegetables of the gourd family, these are natural cleansers and improve the function of kidneys. You must avoid certain foods to prevent the urinary tract infection from aggravating!
Tea and coffee can increase the burning sensation and irritation when you are suffering from UTI. You should reduce or stop the consumption of caffeinated drinks for faster recovery. Alcohol can also cause irritation to your bladder. Do not drink alcohol especially when you are dealing with urinary tract infection. To help relieve the pain in the back or lower abdomen you can take hot or cold fermentation for immediate relief. Fermentation also stimulates the bladder to help you pass urine comfortably.
12. Other Precautions
You should chose cotton under garments than the ones made with polyester to avoid infection. Cotton soaks the moisture and hence it helps to prevent infection from spreading. Try not to hold urine for long periods of time. It makes the bacteria to travel upwards and can aggravate the infection. Once you are infected with UTI it is quiet likely that it can recur at the slightest negligence. You should be careful about your personal hygiene at all times. You should use clean toilets and avoid dirty public place washrooms. In certain cases if you have to go to such places make sure that you wash yourself thoroughly after coming back home.
Sometimes UTI can occur due to increased stress level, stay relaxed and lead a healthy and stress free life. You must keep in mind that if your infection is not getting better within two to three days of following home remedies then you should consult your physician and get medical help.
