Peptic ulcer is an open sore formed on the stomach and intestinal wall because of the erosion of the lining of the digestive system in these areas. The open wound then repeatedly comes in contact with stomach acids and this makes the condition worse. The ulcer that develops on the stomach walls are called gastric ulcers, while that are formed on the intestinal walls are called duodenal ulcers and both of them are together known as peptic ulcer.
There are many factors that contribute to peptic ulcer such as hyper acidity, over eating, excessive intake of spicy foods, coffee and alcohol, smoking, food poisoning and the presence of a bacterium called Helicobacter pylori. Stress, nervous tension, emotional disturbances etc make the condition even worse. The peptic ulcer symptoms and its severity vary from person to person but most of the people experience severe and sharp pain in the upper abdominal area. Whenever a peptic ulcer develops in the stomach or intestine, it leads to flatulence, weakness, mental tension, vomiting, nausea, belching etc. Most often the abdominal pain increases if the person has empty stomach but some people even experience pain after meals. Many people use to take antacids to get relief from the peptic ulcer symptoms but it only provides an initial relief by neutralizing the acids in the stomach. Thereafter the stomach respond to this condition by producing more acids as the root cause for peptic ulcer is left untreated. Ulcers can be treated at the best with certain natural home remedies.
