HCG Diet Plan is based on the principle of burning of excess fat present in the human body by administering the Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin hormone, which actually helps in the storage of body fat in pregnant women, but acts in the opposite manner in others. This diet plan consists of eating a very low-calorie diet (about 500 calories a day) while on the HCG hormone, which is taken either in the form of homeopathic oral pills or HCG injections.
The low-calorie intake being insufficient for maintenance of the body metabolic activities, compels the body to use its fat reserves for supplying energy, thereby leading to burning of the deposited fat. This diet plan has received mixed responses regarding the health safety factor. However, it gained immense popularity amongst people who are interested in losing weight in a guaranteed and fast manner.
The HCG Diet Plan
High-calorie Food
Calorie-dense foods such as high fat chocolate bars, cakes, croissants and other items are consumed during the first couple of days of the HCG Diet Plan.
Also known as the “loading phase”, the initial couple of days of the HCG Diet plan are used by the body to build its calorie reserves, in order to supply the body with calories in the following days, when the calorie intake will be very low.
High Protein
After the first two days of high-calorie food consumption, the dieter should consume high-protein foods while keeping the calorie intake low.
Vegetables such as broccoli, asparagus, cabbage, cucumber, and radish should feature on the menu. 4 oz cottage cheese and egg whites of 3 boiled eggs ideally complete the protein portion of the HCG plan dieter.
Breakfast
After the initial couple of days, the dieter is recommended to take breakfast consisting of a cup of tea or coffee liquor with an allowance of a tablespoon of milk with no sugar.
Lunch
The lunch is also centered on a low-calorie diet. Low-calorie and high-protein meat of one or more varieties, Melba toast, low-calorie fruits and vegetables constitute lunch. You can choose from no-fat broiled chicken breast, shrimp, crab, or beef.
Vegetables such as cucumber and leafy greens constitute the next course of lunch, whereas fruits such as oranges, strawberries or apples, constitute yet another portion of the lunch.
Dinner
The categories of courses for dinner remain the same as for lunch. The courses consist of bread, meat, vegetables and fruits. However, you could change the variety of these items. You could have a variety of meat, fruit or vegetable that is different from the one that you had for lunch.
No-Restriction Foods
Some foods can be eaten without inhibition, while following a HCG diet plan. You can have plenty of leafy green vegetables, cucumber, Swiss chard, cabbage, lettuce, kale, radish , broccoli, and asparagus. Dieting does not mean that you have to restrict your cravings for tasty food.
The vegetables can taste very delicious when you season them with pepper, lemon, mustard and fennel. You can further enhance the taste with spices such as garlic , thyme, marjoram, basil and parsley. Apart from seasonings and spices you can try interesting variations with oil-free dressings.
