Share

Chilblains are one of the commonly seen winter skin disorders and can be described as a mild type of frostbite. Chilblain mainly results in painful and itchy inflammations especially, over the hands, feet and ears. As mentioned before, this disorder mainly occurs during cold weather conditions.

Reduced circulation of blood is regarded as one of the important causes for the problem of chilblains. Normally, we may have the urge to rinse our hands and feet using warm water when affected by diseases like chilblains. It should be resisted as it can aggravate the case instead of providing a relief.

Home Remedies For Chilblains

Cayenne powder is proved to be one of the excellent home remedies in the case of chilblains. Spreading a layer of cayenne powder over the swellings can be helpful in enhancing the blood flow. Avoid using cayenne powder in case of ruptured swellings. Using calendula ointment can be useful in the case of cracked or ruptured swellings.

Turnip is found to be useful in curing the problem of chilblains completely and efficiently. Boiling about half a cup of finely chopped turnip in about 2 liters of water and then soaking the affected areas of skin in this infusion for a few minutes can be helpful in the treatment for chilblains. Rubbing freshly cut turnip over the affected parts of skin can also be useful in curing the problem completely.

Roots of horseradish are also found to be effective in curing the disorder very efficiently. Crushed horseradish roots can be tied over the swellings for a few hours. This is one of the commonly used home cures in the case of chilblains. Using onion juice is also proved to be advantageous in curing the problem completely. Lemon juice can also be used instead of onion juice in the treatment for the same.

Celery is another excellent home cure in the case of chilblains and several other skin problems. Cook about 100 grams of celery stalks in about 500 ml of water for 30 minutes. Soaking the affected parts of skin in this prepared infusion can be useful in curing the problem efficiently. Doing this two to three times a day can be more beneficial in the treatment.

An excellent ointment can be prepared at home by mixing equal quantities of egg white, honey and flour. A bit of glycerin can be added to the mixture and then can be applied over the chilblain affected areas of skin. This is one of the effective remedies in the case of chilblains. Applying a little of crushed potato can also be helpful in healing the problem very effectively.

Black peppercorns are also proved to be valuable in the treatment for the problem of chilblains. About 50 grams of grounded peppercorns can be fried in about 50 ml of sesame oil. Applying this oil over the affected areas and massaging for about 30 minutes can be valuable in reducing the problem of chilblains very efficiently.
