Foods That Cure Cold Sores

Share

How nice the world would be, if there were no viral infections to bother you! But, life is not a bed of roses and thousands of people have woken up in the morning with cold sores on their lips or around their mouths. Kiss your best friend or eat in the same plate, your love will vanish into thin air if your friend happens to be infected by the Herpes Simplex Virus, the villain behind  cold sores ! If you felt that a cold sore is a cool thing, you are mistaken!

Firstly, it gives you ugly, swollen and red lips. Next, it is very painful and may cause fever and swelling of glands in your throat.  Well, empty vessels make a lot of noise. Though the cold sore exhibits terrible symptoms, it is not as harmful as it appears to be. Most often, it heals by itself or you may need to apply some ointment. But still, you have to bear the ordeal for some days (1-2 days to 2 weeks) isn’t it? Hence, why not opt for a diet that can throw your cold sores into another universe?

5 Natural Foods That Cure Cold Sores

Lysine Rich Foods

Lysine is an amino acid that inhibits the growth of the cold sores virus. It is administered as a drug for this infection, but natural dietary sources of this protein component are also available. Your cold sores give you a good reason to gorge on cheese, as this is a lysine-rich food. However, do not over indulge as you will be taking in some unhealthy fats along with lysine.

Yogurt is a healthier option. You could also include whole milk, eggs, turkey, tuna fish, mangoes, tomatoes, and a number of other dairy products, meats, and fruits in your cold sore diet.  Lists of lysine-rich foods are commonly available with diet experts and you can consult them.

Antioxidant Rich Foods

Berries such as strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries are rich in antioxidants. An environment rich in antioxidants does not support the growth and proliferation of the herpes virus.

Therefore, you could snack on these delicious berries as often as you can.

Vitamin C Rich Foods

Vitamin C has excellent anti-viral properties. It stops the Herpes menace by restricting its multiplication. This helps in stopping the infective virus from spreading from person to person.

Doctors recommend administering Vitamin C paste on the lesions. If you are not averse to sour taste, you can try lime drinks, Brussels sprout and broccoli dishes, and strawberries.

Honey

Honey lovers, here’s a sweet poison for the Herpes virus! Let them get choked with the high levels of glucose and fructose in honey, while you gorge on this golden fluid! The phenolic acids and flavonoids of honey also attack the Herpes virus like smart weapons.

Cat’s Claw

We are not talking about the claw of a cat here, but about a herb that works against your cold sore very effectively, as it has antiviral, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Include a Cat’s Claw tea in your Cold Sore diet menu and watch your sore disappear fast, as though it were never there!
