Bulimia is a disorder in which a person has uncontrollable bouts of eating. The person indulges in all kinds of unhealthy foods such as ice creams, cakes, chocolates and other high-calorie foods and gains as much as 4000-5000 calories in a short while. This uncontrollable eating leads to mortification and to prevent weight gain, uses laxatives or tries to get rid of the food by vomiting. Generally teenage girls and young women who are obsessed with a thin body, have this problem.

The eating binges may occur several times a day and the person resorts to eating in secret. These binges are followed by self disgust and loathing and lead to purging for self satisfaction and to prevent weight gain. Some people indulge in excessive exercise and use laxatives indiscriminately. All these, harm the body physically as well as mentally.
