5 Home Remedies For Dropsy

The swelling of the soft tissues of the body due to excessive retention of fluids in the body is known as dropsy, or hydro dropsy. Hydro means water. This type of swelling in the body due to dropsy is called edema. When one presses the swelled up areas, small pits are formed like a dent on the skin.  Even after releasing the pressure the dent persists.

Dropsy is caused by many diseases especially related to heart, kidney and liver. In kidney disease, the swelling is seen around the eyes and face especially in the morning. Lower part of the legs and feet swell up if dropsy is due to heart problem. Toxic wastes accumulate to such an extent inside the body, that the liver and kidneys fail to filter it and it reaches the blood stream. Other reasons of dropsy include malnutrition due to poor protein intake, thyroid problems, weak heart muscles, cough and shortness of breath. If left untreated, there is an increased risk of heart failure in dropsy.

5 Effective Remedies For Dropsy

Pineapple

Pineapple is full of valuable nutrients and has innumerable healing benefits. It is very high in chlorine which helps the kidneys to flush out the excessive toxic fluid from the body.

It also helps the body to get rid of the excess water which is clogged inside the body. Eat two helpings of the fresh fruit daily. You can also drink pineapple juice mixed with some apple juice or grape juice. These juices are rich in antioxidants which scavenge all the harmful free radicals from the body and flush them out of it through urine.

Garlic

Garlic has potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antibiotic properties. It supports the function of the liver and the kidneys by removing all the toxic wastes and thus reducing the strain on them considerably.

Garlic also stimulates circulation and keeps the heart in optimum health. Add a few cloves of garlic to all your dishes and every morning chop three cloves of garlic and swallow it instantly with some water on an empty stomach.

Lemongrass

Lemongrass has marvelous antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and diuretic properties which increase the urine output and eliminate all the harmful toxins from the body through it. Lemongrass also reduces the swelling and provides relief in the symptoms of dropsy.

Boil one cup of water and steep five blades of fresh lemongrass into it for ten minutes. Strain the tea, stir in one teaspoon of honey and drink this tea three or four times daily.

Buttermilk

Buttermilk is full of calcium and other vital nutrients that not only restore the body’s reserves of energy but also keep the entire digestive tract clean and free from infections thus reducing the strain on the liver and the kidneys.

Buttermilk also reduces the burning and pain felt during urination. Drink two glasses of fresh buttermilk daily.

Radish Leaves

Radish leaves are rich in antioxidant and diuretic properties which help to flush out all the toxins from the body and improve the function of the liver and the kidneys. Crush a handful of fresh radish leaves and extract its juice. Drink one cup of this juice, every morning.
