Dilute tea tree oil with some olive or sweet almond oil or water and massage on your scalp. Cover all area of your scalp and leave it on for fifteen minutes. Continue until the symptoms subside. Remember to dilute tea tree oil adequately before application as it can cause severe burns on the skin otherwise.
Aloe Vera is a cooling and moisturizing herb and also has several medicinal and healing properties that can restore the heath of your scalp. Apply aloe gel from the plant and leave it on for its action to set in. Aloe can remove all the dead skin cells from the scalp and also destroy any bacteria, lice or dandruff that has irritated your scalp and caused itchiness and dryness. Repeat every day for optimum results.
Peppermint oil too is a great remedy for dry and itchy scalp. Peppermint has a cooling and numbing effect on the skin and this can suppress the itchiness and irritation and also sooth the skin. Mix a few drops of peppermint oil along with some warm water and apply on the scalp. Rub with your fingers in circular motion so that the oil gets absorbed on to the skin. Wash off after this. Repeat the treatment every day until you find relief from itchiness and dryness.
Great for restoring the pH balance of the scalp and also for destroying and fungal and bacterial action that causes the itching and dryness, baking soda helps in removing all the dead skin cells on the scalp and stops itching completely. Oatmeal has vitamin E, which is a great moisturizing agent and also helps in soothing itchy skin. Take six cups of water and boil it. Add twelve tablespoons of oatmeal powder to this. Simmer for one hour and remove from the flame. Strain the concoction and 6-7 drops of rosemary oil to this. Allow it to cool and massage your head with this mixture. Leave it for half an hour and wash off.
Olive oil is known to be a humectant and moisturizing agent. Warm olive oil and apply on the scalp, massaging gently for good absorption. Alternatively, you can crush five aspirin tablets to 1/4th cup olive oil and massage this mixture on the head for five minutes. Cover with a hot towel for five minutes and rinse with cool water. This will help in giving good shine and also in retaining the moisture on the hair and scalp, thereby stopping itchiness and dryness.
Apple cider vinegar restores the pH balance of the scalp and hence an apt remedy for treating itchy and dry scalp. It is also an antiseptic and disinfectant of sorts and will help in removing fungal, bacterial and dandruff problems from the scalp as well. Take ½ a cup of apple cider vinegar and add half a cup of water to this. You can use a spray bottle for spraying the contents on the scalp and the hair. Cover your head with a shower cap and allow to saturate for at least fifteen minutes.
