Home Remedies For Dyspnea

Dyspnea in other words means shortness of breath. Normally people get breathless after strenuous exercise or physical exertion and the breathlessness subsides after discontinuing the work and resting but in dyspnea, there is acute respiratory distress and the patient has to gasp for breath. The breathing becomes difficult and labored and there is sensation of panic. Dyspnea is mainly caused by lung disorders and lung infections like severe bronchitis, flare-ups of asthma attacks, pneumonia, emphysema, pulmonary embolism and lung cancer.

The upper airways become inflamed as a result of which they become narrower and inhibit the free and smooth flow of air in and out of the lungs. The mucous membranes, lining the airways also begin producing extra mucus which is thick in consistency and which builds up in the airways and further constricts the already narrow passages and deprives the lungs of air. Dypnea can also cause chest pains, a tightness in the chest, coughing and wheezing.

Best Remedies For Dyspnea

Eucalyptus Oil

In order to treat dyspnea it is of the first consequence to treat the underlying cause. Boil a pan full of water and add a few drops of eucalyptus oil to it. Bend your face over the pan and throw a large towel over your head so as to trap the steam.

Inhale the hot fumes until they lose heat. Eucalyptus oil has powerful anti-inflammatory and antibacterial and antiviral properties which can clear the infection and reduce the swelling in the airways thus making breathing easier.

Mustard Oil

Mustard oil has heat producing qualities. It also has antibacterial, antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties which can reduce the inflammation and dislodge the trapped mucus and enable it to reach the stomach and from there to be expelled out of the body through the excretory system.

Warm some mustard oil and massage your chest and back with it for twenty minutes. After the massage cover yourself with a blanket and relax for half an hour. Use this massage twice daily.

Tulsi Or Holy Basil

It is important to reduce the inflammation in the upper airways and open up the air passages to allow the free flow of air so that the lungs are not deprived of air which is most vital for the body.

Drinking tulsi tea on a regular basis will keep the respiratory airways free from mucus and free from inflammation and infections. Boil a pan of water and add twelve tulsi leaves to it. Continue boiling on a low heat for two minutes then turn off the heat and cover the pan. After ten minutes strain the tea and drink cupfuls of it throughout the day.

Turmeric

Turmeric is another spice that has powerful warming and anti-inflammatory action. Turmeric can also address bacterial and viral infections and can clear the excess mucus from the respiratory tract. Mix one teaspoon of turmeric powder into a glass of hot milk and drink it each night before going to bed.

Ginger

Ginger not only takes care of the infection but it also decreases the inflammation and keeps the airways free from mucus. Drink three to four cups of ginger tea on a regular basis.
